Two More Challenges Complete!

Well, you can tell what I've been up to! In the challenge class of 2010, these two beauties were my nominees for "most likely to succeed".

I am an avid user of my local public library. Not only do they have an amazing selection of audio books, but they also deliver to my home. It's like door-to-door service for crack addicts! Anyway, I chose the 25 book challenge, and here they are:

The Adoration of Jenna Fox - Mary E. Pearson
The Given Day - Dennis Lehane
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J.K. Rowling
The Good Pig - Sy Montgomery
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County - Tiffany Baker
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running - Haruki Murakami
The Liar's Club - Mary Karr
Life As We Knew It - Susan Beth Pfeffer
The Girl Who Played With Fire - Stieg Larsson
Open - Andre Agassi
If You Come Softly - Jacqueline Woodson
When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris
Olive Kitteredge - Elizabeth Strout
Sarah's Key - Tatiana de Rosnay
Shutter Island - Dennis Lehane
Hold Tight - Harlan Coban
The Swan Thieves - Elizabeth Kostova
Mystic River - Dennis Lehane
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix - J.K. Rowling (review coming 4/29)
The Dead and the Gone - Susan Beth Pfeffer
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris (review coming 5/18)
Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Neale Hurston
Behind You - Jacqueline Woodson

As you can see from THIS challenge, most of my library rentals are audio books, with a few exceptions. I accepted the maximum challenge of 20 audios:

The Given Day - Dennis Lehane
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J.K. Rowling
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County - Tiffany Baker
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running - Haruki Murakami
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins
The Liar's Club - Mary Karr
Got the Look - James Grippando
Cemetery Dance - Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston
The Girl Who Played With Fire - Stieg Larsson
Open - Andre Agassi
When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris
Sarah's Key - Tatiana de Rosnay
Shutter Island - Dennis Lehane
Olive Kitteredge - Elizabeth Strout
Hold Tight - Harlan Coban
The Swan Thieves - Elizabeth Kostova
Mystic River - Dennis Lehane
Harry Potter and the Order of Pheonix - J.K. Rowling
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris
Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Neale Hurston
Look Again - Lisa Scottoline (review coming 4/27)

I have to admit, these challenges were not really a challenge. Still, I can mark them off my list and focus on some of my neglected children...Vietnam, E-Book and Graphic Novels.

How are you all doing with your challenges so far?

Amazing selection of audio books? Deliver to your door? Wow! I'm very impressed. My library has very few audio books that I want to listen to and I have to trek out there and browse through an increasingly disappointing selection of books - no wonder you love your library!

Hey, Sandy! Library delivery...NICE!! Ours doesn't do that, but my nearest library is only a few miles away at the community college, so I'm OK with that.
So many challenges! WOW! Although I agree that these two don't seem like a real challenge for you (they would be for me, most certainly!). I'm interested to know which was your favorite read among these two lists.

I would love it if the library delivered to my door! Now that's great service. Is there an extra fee for it?

Congratulations!

I have read about 27 library books, but I signed up for the 50 level, so I am only half way there.

Unfortunately, I am not doing so well with most of my challenges :(

I can't believe the library delivers to your door! I would also be in big trouble if we had such a service! (as it is, we feel lucky that libraries are still open)

As others said, that is indeed the ultimate luxury ... library delivery!

Congrats on completing these two challenges! I am, sadly, woefully behind on all of mine and had to drop several of them.

Great list of books, too!

Congrats for you! Unfortunately I don't even want to think about how bad I'm doing on the challenges I signed up for!

Kim - I would say either The Girl That Played With Fire or Shutter Island. Both audios just blew me away!

Jeane - No! No extra charge whatsoever! Almost seems too good to last, doesn't it?

You library delivers??? I've never heard of that!
Congratulations on finishing the challenges, too.

You totally rock at challenges! Congratulations! (I've never heard of a library delivering books - I am so jealous.)

Your library is lucky to have you as a patron!! Well done on the challenge circuit (there are a few in there that I'm dying to get my hands on also; maybe audio is the way to go). But home delivery??? Sheesh! That is awesome.

Congrats on finishing two challenges! Now, let's get to the graphic novel challenge... Find American Born Chinese, Maus, Persepolis, and Fables as soon as possible and get started. ;)

Library delivery! I wonder if my local friends of the library could do that for a small fee as a fundraiser. I'd pay a dollar or two for that service.

We're facing so many cuts over the next couple of years, I'm betting the library will have to cut its hours.

You are rocking! I am pretty pitiful in the challenge category. I need to sit and see how much I have progressed. I haven't been tracking it very well.

We don't have library delivery around here yet (lucky you!), but I do enjoy being able to download audio books from the county library website with just my library card number and password. Works for me.

These two challenges seem a natural fit for you, Sandy. What do you have lined up for the graphic novel challenge? Really enjoyed a graphic novel of The Picture of Dorian Gray (have seen that same publisher has other classic titles out too) and Britten and Brulightly (sp?) last year. Happy reading!

I loved and read many of the books on your list and I can't wait to see what you think about them in detail. Congrats on finishing the challenges!

congrats to you on finishing these two! The Vietnam War challenge is lonely over at my blog, too. Do you have your reading list for it?

Congrats! Our library system in Vancouver had postal delivery, too - I thought it was wonderful.

Most of my books come from my library. I would be lost without it. You are doing great on you challenges, Sandy. I'm going to evaluate mine come June and see where I really stand!

Good job!! You are the audio book queen!

I need to buckle down and focus on finishing my challenges one by one. I have a little bit of a lot of them done but none all finished. You're inspiring me.

Well done, Sandy! You rock!

Great job on your challenges.

I thought Shutter Island and Olive Kitteridge were very good audio books. I LOVE the library and am always borrowing audio books.

YAY! Congrats Sandy! Not only did you finish *two* challenges, you've done so long before we're halfway the year!

I'm not doing so great... Like last year, time is the main problem and blogging reviews is the hardest part! But I'm having fun ;)

Congrats on finishing 2 challenges! My library has tons of audios and ebooks, but delivering to your door is quite a bonus!
