Sunday Salon: Shopping 'til I drop

Happy Sunday friends!  I am sending you good wishes very early in the morning, as I am about to jump in my car and take a little road trip to Ellenton (near Sarasota) to an outlet mall to go shopping with vacationing Indiana friends.  This is the third year we have met each other half way and lavished in a girls' day of shopping and lunching and catching up.  I've been informed by my husband that on our trip to Poland I am expected to pack clothes that don't wrinkle, take up little room and dry easily (as there isn't a clothes dryer in the entire country).  While I'm not altogether happy with receiving packing advice, I AM happy to have a specific shopping mission.  So away I go.

I spent a majority of my week toiling in the yard.  And what a week to do it.  I think the average temp this week was 92, so it just sucked the life right out of me.  Another project this week was christening my new "Slow Cooker Revolution" cookbook (review to come eventually).  I'd read several great reviews of this book, and then when I won an Amazon gift card from Dar, I ordered it in about 5 minutes.  Crock pot meals save my life during football season.

After piggy's miraculous recovery several weeks ago, we noticed this week that he had a large growth underneath his chin.  It was just there one day.  So I ran him to our vet, and determined it was just some random infection that needed lanced.  The result, though, was three or four days of not eating and subsequent hand-feeding.  Again.  It put me in a funk, and brought back some bad memories.  I'm not a hundred percent sure if he is out of the woods at this point, but he seems to be eating again.  He has lost so much weight over the last couple of months that he really can't spare any.  I'm crossing my fingers...

So I've been preoccupied, and have spent very little time on the computer, but in the back of my head I am deliberately planning a way to get out ahead of my posts for when I am gone in June.  I know I just need to keep at it, so two days before I leave I don't have to pull an all-nighter.  One exciting thing on the calendar for the week of June 6 - 10 is Jen's Audiobook Week. Even though I won't physically be here, I will be scheduling audiobook reviews and participating in Jen's memes.  If you are an audiofile, you can't miss this!

Speaking of audios, I spent most of the week listening to "Bloodroot" by Amy Greene.  The narration, which was a full cast, was incredible.  The story itself was good too.  I'm not sure I'd say I love it, but I'm going to let it percolate in my brain and see what happens.  If it isn't love, then it is serious heavy-duty like.  Now I am a little over halfway through Michael Harvey's "The Third Rail", and chances are I will knock it out to and from Sarasota today.  Next up will be Lori Roy's "Bent Road" for book club this month.

In print, I literally had the latest John Sandford Prey novel "Buried Prey" for lunch.  Never mind my commitments, it had to be mine.  And it ROCKED.  By far my favorite of the 21 novels in this series.  Now I am reading Daniel Palmer's "Delirious" and enjoying the heck out of it.  So here is a funny story.  After I expressed my horrification of Mr. Palmer spoiling his second novel at the UCF Book Festival, he contacted me to apologize, and sent me a copy of "Delirious" as an "I'm sorry" gift.  So needless to say, I have forgiven him.  He is just way too charming to be mad at.

Well, I'd love to stay and chat some more, but I've got to hit the road.  Anything exciting on your agendas today?  Are you reading anything that I must not ignore?

Poland! You lucky thing! I lived next door for years (Germany) and never made it over the border.

The fjords in Norway are just stunning.

Have a lovely time, and I trust that the Kindle will not blow up!

Have a great time on your trip - both the shopping one and the overseas one!

That warm 92 degrees sounds so good, but I know in reality I'd be wilted. I hope you find lots of fabulous wrinkle-free clothes on your shopping trip!

Sandy, I hope you are enjoying your shopping trip!! Poland sounds fun, our Priest is from Poland and he tells amazing stories. Are you going to see Auschwitz?
I am helping my husband paint our bathroom today, and squeezing in some reading I hope. Check my blog out for what I'm reading.

I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip to visit your Polish family - can't wait to see the pictures!

I'm listening to Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani on audio - it's excellent!

Oh outlet shopping! Have fun. We live literally across the street from an outlet mall in northern Florida and it is a lesson in self-control everyday.

Oh no! Piggy is sick again? It must be really hard for you guys after having had to nurse him back to health so very recently. Hopefully he's a hanger on, and that he is back to his usual gobbly self soon. I also can't wait to hear what you think of Delirious. I thought I had it, but it turns out I was mistaken. I will have to see what your review says before I decide to buy. I also came across a great book for you the other day in my stash. It's a true crime book about family mayhem and murder. I will have to pass that along to you pronto! I hope that you have a great time shopping and picking up all those wrinkle-free garments!

We visited Sarasota this week, too! Had an amazing time in Sanibel, but after our horrendous winter I didn't dare complain about the record heat... seems to be no happy medium this year! Enjoy your time in Poland.

Yard work and 92 degrees equals total misery. Ick.
I'm excited to see your photos from the Poland trip...that will be fun. My family is from Poland too but no one lives there anymore.

Oh no poor Piggy. I hope he's feeling better soon!

Hope you girls had a fabulous time shopping. You'll have to tell us what you got!

And, I'm really looking forward to that crockpot cookbook review. I don't/can't cook so if it's easy and yummy then I may just have to start cooking! haha...

Sorry to hear that little piggy has been ill again. I hope he gets better soon.

PS I've been treated to several extra posts in google reader and then they haven't been here to comment on when I've clicked through. I assume you are writing them in advance and they are somehow sneaking through. It is strange to see you going back to Poland as I vividly remember your last trip two years ago. Can't believe I've been following you for that long - time flies!

I don't like hearing that piggy is sick again. I'll be praying for him. Hopefully he'll bounce back and put those pounds back on.

Poland - wow! I've got to go read that post. I am so jealous!

I'm glad you're enjoying the cookbook. I'm debating on picking it up for myself too.

Enjoy your shopping!

I'm super excited for audio week! I'm listening to Girl Who Played With Fire right now and it is awesome! I really only have time to listen when we drive to Claire's therapy. Who knew I'd be wishing for more appts so I could listen more? :)

Good luck on your shopping trip! Is the no dryer thing all over eastern Europe? I see this issue mentioned frequently on the adoption blogs I read...
