Monday Movie Meme - Show Tunes...

This week's Movie Meme is all about Musical Films...I can't say that I seek them out, but I have a few nostalgic favorites. Here they are:

1. West Side Story - I liked it even as a kid!
2. The Sound of Music - Again, loved it as a kid. Now my kids dig it!
3. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - the old one, by the way.
4. Fiddler on the Roof - I've watched it probably 50 times...never get tired of it. Cool dancing!
5. Moulin Rouge - the first time I saw this, I was entranced.

What are your favorites?

I love musicals. Hubby and I are going to see The Phantom of the Opera performed on stage this weekend and I am so excited! Saturday can't get here soon enough.

A few of my favorite film musicals include Grease, Rent, Chicago, Evita, Mary Poppins, and Hairspray.
You've already mentioned two of my other favorites: West Side Story and The Sound of Music.

That doesn't include the animated film musicals that I adore like Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan and Anastacia.

I love musicals! Dad and I go to the theater as much as we can. We will see Chicago in a week or so, and I can't wait!

I love West Side Story movie and would love to see a live version.

The Sound of Music was a favorite movie growing up too.

On a seperate note, I can't find your email on your blog...Send me an email, if you don't mind. :)

Wendy - the Phantom is so incredible. I wasn't so much bowled over by the movie however. Be sure and let us know how you liked it!!! Oh yeah, the animated ones are great. My husband and I bought Lion King and Beauty and the Beast even before we had kids.

Melissa - those are all classic. West Side Story really captured my heart even as a child. So much intensity and energy! My e-mail is rnawrot@cfl.rr.com. That is a good point though. I will include it in my profile...

Thanks for playing! I enjoyed Willie Wonka too (original version). If not for the fact that I performed songs from Fiddler on the Roof ad nauseum for violin recitals growing up I would probably have happier memories of that one.

Bumbles, I'm so sorry I did not leave a message on your post linking to my answer. I had to be out of the house at 6:00 this morning for a school event and I forgot!

Is this for Monday's Movie MEME on my site... or another one? If for mine, I'll add it to Mr. Linky!

(Somethin' funky with your font there. You need to change the color or something.)

At the risk of being esoteric and pretentious, here some other mentionable, if not obscure musicals:

Dancer in the Dark (2000) Lars von Trier
8 Women (2002) Francois Ozon
Across the Universe (2007) Julie Taymor
The Happiness of the Katakuris (2001) Takashi Miike

Watch all at your own risk!

Sorry, no comment on remakes - the bane of my existence.

Sheri - This meme actually comes from the Bumbles, who started it themselves awhile back as they couldn't find one. Of course, I was in a big fat hurry with this week's and forgot to link back with them. Oops!

Kath - I'm not seeing the funky font. But I will brighten the color if that is the problem. I recently messed with the html to get a wider posting area, and it turned the background completely brown. Go figure. Anyway, this is why I wanted a movie person to visit my movie meme. I knew I would get some interesting answers. (Don't blame you on the remakes.)

Definitely Moulin Rouge! :D

I love some of the oldies:

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Meet Me in St. Louis

As a kid, I remember watching Summer Stock, starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, over and over again.

More recently, I loved Mamma Mia!

Melody - I remember the first time I saw Moulin Rouge. I had to see it several more times, I was so taken with it!

Carrie - I did see Mamma Mia (movie and on Broadway tour) with my daughter and it was so much fun! I haven't seen any of the others you mention...maybe I need to throw them on the Netflix Q!

Thanks for the Happy Tag! I will try to get it posted later today or tomorrow. Wow, this is going to be dangerously close to my obsessions that I posted a couple of days ago! This is my chance to post a picture of Viggo!

I can put in a vote for 8 Women. I'll also put in plugs for Little Shop of Horrors, Colma: The Musical, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. These are not suitable for children, probably, but if you're willing to take a chance.....

Well, of the three Netflix movies I get, two are for adults and one for kids (I'm a selfish mommy). My hairdresser raved about Hedwig years ago, and I never got around to seeing it. Thanks for the recommendations!
