Wordless Wednesday - Christmas in Indiana #4

On one of my frozen walks. This is an old cemetary near my parents' house, that has graves dating back to the Civil War.

Oh wow! Just wondering...why do they fence up the place?

I love old cemeteries! When I was a kid, my friends and I used to ride our bikes to the big one in our town and play hide and seek and make up ghost stories about the statues and mausoleums. I know, we were weird kids! :)

I find that I am often drawn to photos of cemeteries. They are at once haunting and peaceful - with many untold stories lying beneath the tombstones.

Great picture!

That looks so desolate. I love that you had your camera with you on your walk!

cemeteries make great photos. they make us pause and think about the past, the future. and add a gray day and some snow...magic!

If a cemetery can make someone smile and fond memories than this one does. I remember walking and riding our bikes past it when I spent nights at your house in grade school! I always went home and told Mom and Dad about how old the graves were and the familiar family names of those buried there! Great pictures!

Wow, what a lot of history in there. I know it's weird but I actually find it interesting to walk through old cemeteries and read the headstones.

I love the atmosphere of that photo! One day I'd love to spend Christmas somewhere as snowy as that.

Lovely and intriguing: who were those people? What were their stories? Thanks for sharing this one, Sandy!

Strange as it may sound, I am fascinated by old cemetaries! Being a history major in college I just can't resist all of the wonderful history that can be found in these places! What a great photo!
