This was an interesting, new addition to one of the bridges in downtown Wroclaw. It seems that various people have attached padlocks all across this walkway. Each padlock is inscribed with the name of a couple in love, the name of a loved one who has passed away, or whatever inspired them. I've never seen such a thing...

Padlock = love? But then they usethem for people who have died, where I would think the lock should be undone..
I wonder if the padlock has some special symbolism there?
Or the memory of the deceased loved one is still "locked" in their heart? It's a mystery to me. I wonder who came up with the first one and how the tradition spread.
How very interesting! I love it! And I love iron bridges...did it have any scrollwork on the top?
I wonder who started that - it's kind of cool.
How interesting - who would have imagined such a thing!
That is very different. I haven't ever heard or seen anything like that before.
interesting . . .
Kaye—the road goes ever ever on
Well I'm guessing the padlock represents a heart united with another - locked in place with love so to speak. And those involved each have the key to their hearts - and the ability to unlock them.
Or people just like chaining their loved ones to a bridge.
I love this tradition, don't you? They have the same thing in Cologne, Germany. When I return in May 2010 I will be bringing an inscribed lock with me to add to the ones that are already there!
That's an interesting thing to do. I love bridges of any kind.
Very interesting! I'd love to know how the tradition comes about.
Intriguing. Wonder when and why the tradition started. Am on the side of those who favor "love locked in the heart"...Cool picture, Sandy; thanks for sharing!
Such an interesting tradition! I like it.
I just love this idea!! It seems so romantic and different!
I've never heard of this. Interesting concept -- I kind of like it.
Cool shot too.
