Sunday Salon: Home for Awhile

Happy Sunday morning everyone!  I am pleased to announce that I THINK I am home now for awhile.  Well, at least until Thanksgiving (when we go to St. George Island).  That means I can unpack my jewelry and try to get into a routine in earnest.  Now it is all about the to-do lists!

I started off my week by wrapping up SIBA11.  It officially ended on Monday afternoon, Heather and I said goodbye to Kathy and Swapna (very sad - I miss my girls!) and had an early, leisurely dinner at Magnolia's downtown.  I think I passed out by 9:30 from utter exhaustion.  We hit the road first thing Tuesday morning, and made it home by mid-afternoon.  I was greeted with big hugs from my kids.  Apparently my husband was driving them crazy, and perhaps I'm not so bad after all?  I've decided to recap SIBA11 with two posts:  one covering the authors, coming tomorrow, and one covering the books, which will come the following Monday.

Short digression:  oh the books, people, the books!  My shelves were threatening to collapse before SIBA, but now it is out. of. control.  I have informed my husband that I must have bookcases for Christmas.  I must have many of them, and they must be all the way to the ceiling.  The chaos and disarray must stop.

The rest of the week was spent catching up, which seems to be the theme of my life.  I even skipped golf on Thursday so I could get a grip on things.  Saturday was dedicated (as usual) to football, church, and then one last stab at Magical Dining Month at Capital Grill with friends.

Now is when I hang my head and tell you what a loser I've been when it comes to reading.  And with all these wonderful books staring at me accusingly.  I'm STILL reading "Dominance" by Will Lavender, a week and a half later, not because it isn't a good book but because I'm distracted.  I think once I finish this guy (hopefully in the next day or two) I'm going to knock out some of my shorter books to make myself feel better.

On audio I have two books going.  Because of uploading issues, I am listening to my next Heathrow Literary Society book, "Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan, only in the car with the actual discs.  On my iPod, I'm listening to "The Snowman" by Jo Nesbo, narrated by Robin Sachs who is SUBLIME.  To an audio/Nesbo addict, this is like the stars and moons aligning.  I cannot get enough.

A couple of other random thoughts...did you guys see Jenners' post about being a book hoarder?  Then Heather came up with the idea of setting it to the music of Fiddler on the Roof's "If I Were a Rich Man"?  And who best to make a song parody than Fizzy Jill?  Take a look at this.  It will make your day.

Second random thought...have you heard of Club Read?  It is a totally unique event sponsored by SIBA where you spend 24 hours with dozens of authors, eating, drinking, talking.  Total immersion, total dream-come-true kind of thing for a reader.  So if you are looking for something fun to do the weekend of October 15th, check this out!  Myself, I shall be serving Polish chili (recipe yet to be determined) at a Chili Cookoff fundraiser for my daughter's 8th grade class.  So please think of me when you are rubbing elbows with all those amazing authors.

So what is up for today?  My daughter has horseback riding lessons, then she wants to go shopping (!?).  Maybe a movie?  Doesn't sound too promising for reading does it?  We will see.  Have a good one!

We're adding bookshelves to our lives here. Getting two bookcases built in one of the bedrooms which will then be our library.

Then that's it. If a book comes into the house, then another must go out.

So excited to see all of your books and hear the stories about SIBA! I hope I can attend next year - missed you all this time around! I've been meaning to try Jo Nesbo for some time and audio does sound like a great way to go - looking forward to your thoughts on that.

Oooo, I love Magnolia's and Charleston in general but must admit to not knowing much about SIBA. Maybe next year. Wonderful excuse to be in that part of the world. Looking forward to your posts.

Ok, one, I'm still jealous that you all got to meet up. Two, that song is hysterical!!!!

I can't wait to read your SIBA posts, it's hard to hide my jealousy, but mixed with anticipation:). I have been so unhappy with my own reading progress as of late. I love my pt job at b&n, but it's cutting into my reading time, and I've got to learn to manage my blog reading and writing too!!
Thank you for taking me to more blogs...oy! Loved Jill's words and Jenners hoarding post too.
Enjoy being home.....and all those activities with kids too.

As Yoda would say, "There is no lose. There is only enjoy." Or something like that. Who cares how long it takes to get through a book? Unless, of course, you have all those other books crying out to be read. :-D

Sometimes plopping a short book in the middle of a longer one is just plain necessary, especially if the short book is a really easy, really quick read. I do it all the time!

I loved Loving Frank. I hope you are enjoying it. As for bookshelves, I need more too. Originally I wanted some for my birthday last month but then I got a car instead!

Think we can all identify with the bookshelf woes! We're having an afternoon of football, reading, and blogging before heading off to my sister's for a b-day party. Will look forward to your SIBA posts.

I am so thrilled that you will be getting your bookshelves! It is seriously a necessity, and I will be glad when they are finally installed and packed full. I also am finding it strange that I can't seem to finish with my book this week either. It's not a particularly long or arduous read, but for some reason, I have the attention span of a gnat. I just started The Last Werewolf on audio the other day, and will be curious as to your impressions on it when you get to it. It's very...unusual. I hope that this week finds you getting back into the swing of things again!

Book shelves sound like a great idea, I need to get afew.
The Book Hoarder son is hilarious!

I'm looking forward to your SIBA posts...I saw a great photo at Kathy/Bermudaonion's of you all with Tom Franklin!
Nothing like going away to be appreciated when you get home!

Sounds like you had loads of fun!!
Speaking of Jo Nesbo, I got "Headhunters" and I look forward to reading it.

Polish chili sounds yummy!

We've purchased all of the bookcases that will fit in our house, and if we ever move anywhere smaller it will be a sad day of book weeding. I can't wait to see your new shelves!

I'm still having SIBA withdrawals. I had so much fun hanging with everyone!! It's just so much fun to be with people who understand my obsession with books. I think Carl is sick of my SIBA stories.

I didn't get any reading done this weekend so you are not alone. I was just too busy and I didn't want to make what little time I had, feel pressured by rushing through a book. I have 3 hours of rehearsal tonight which means I will be in the parking lot, or maybe the local Starbucks with my nose in my Kindle.

Now that you are home I am sure you will have more time to read. I definitely need more bookshelves too. I need a bigger house for more books! Okay, now I sound like I am an addict!

Oh that sounds like so much fun... I may need to try to plan for this one next year.

I obviously also need to get my hands on Snowman on audio...

That's good that you're finally home for awhile. You're always such a busy lady. I desperately need some bookshelves too - I've got books piled all over the basement now. As for reading, I'm the same as you. I've got all these great books staring at me and my lack of concentration is getting me nowhere. Hope you have a great week and get some reading in.

Even when you are home, you are so busy. And I hope you get those book cases.

And didn't FIzzy Jill just rock the song parody! After Heather suggested it, I just asked and she did it!

Ha! I bet your husband will be happy to get shelves and "hide" the books in plain sight.

Jill is *the best* at writing parodies ... now I have both "Bring me booooooks!" from Jenners song and "I like banned books" going around my little brain.
