In this week's edition of Entertainment Weekly, there is a small article claiming that the week of September 14th could be publishing's biggest week ever. Why? Here are the highlights:
Release of Ted Kennedy's memoir "True Compass" - on sale September 14. Very timely after Kennedy's recent passing.
Release of Jon Krakauer's "Where Men Win Glory" - on sale September 15, about a NFL player turned soldier. Krakauer is most notable for his novel "Into the Wild".
Oprah Winfrey's latest Book Club selection, to be announced September 18.
Release of Dan Brown's next Robert Langdon installment entitled "The Lost Symbol", hits shelves September 15.
I'm not sure that any of the above are on my urgent TBR list. What about you? Will you be contributing to this highly-anticipated week?

I'm not sure that I'm too excited about any of those either. It's interesting that it's being billed as the "biggest week ever!"
I'm not really excited about those. I like Dan Brown is mediocre. Oprah, I'll read her book club selection when there's a billion copies at the library booksale for 50 cents and the other author I haven't read yet. Last week was the big week, hello, Catching Fire release LOL. Well, maybe the 14th will be a big week as it is Book Blogger Appreciation Week!!
Not much here that really trips my trigger, other than maybe the Kennedy book. But I'm guessing that there will be a surge in book sales this week.
Well, I would say the week of September 14 is going to be HUGE in the book publishing/blogger world. I wonder if the publishing world caught wind of the BBAW and wanted to hop aboard all the spirited excitement :)
Oh, I'm very excited about The Lost Symbol. I've asked my mom three or four times whether or not she's preordered it.
Other than that, though, none of these books really interest me.
I already pre-ordered Dan Brown's latest, but not for myself - for my dad! He's a big fan. I'll probably read it eventually, but as for the rest they're not on my immediate TBR list. I'm more excited about the week after when Hornby and Niffenegger's latest hit stands. Regardless of the fact that I already read both of them, I'm excited to see how they do.
I thought the same thing! non of those are really like...oh my gosh must read now!
Lots of good releases. Funny, I always think of Into Thin Air when I think Krakauer!
Amy - yeah, I feel the same way. We shall see!
April - I will admit to having read a few of Oprah's selections, but almost by accident than anything. I, for one, am more excited about BBAW than anything being released that week!
Lisa - it is funny how the bloggers don't seem too excited, but the mass book-buying public probably will be!
Molly - I have wondered the same thing. You'd think somebody would have picked up on it somewhere, or maybe they just don't take us seriously!? Don't know, but I'm pretty psyched!
Heidenkind - I've read everything Dan Brown has written. I got on a roll back in the day. I will probably pick this book up at some point, but will be long after the dust has settled.
Lauren - I agree...I'm ready for Niffenegger!
Amy - Nah. I'll be six to eight months after the hype, like everything else I read!
Can't say I'll be rushing out to buy any of those books. Maybe if Oprah picks a winner. I've read Oprah books in the past, I admit it.
I won't be rushing out the door to buy any of those. It'll be interesting to see what other books are coming out and whether or not they strike my fancy. Of course, I'm trying not to buy any books--particularly new releases right now. Tightening that ol' budget belt and all that. Need money for Christmas gifts.
I'm not that excited about any of the books on the list. I have a mild curiosity about the Dan Brown book and will probably read it at some point, but only when I see it in the library.
No, I don't think I will read any of these.
James, Wendy, Jackie and Andreea - isn't this a hoot? None of us are all that excited about any of these books! And it is supposed to be a huge week. I detect a huge disparity in our reading interests and the interests of the reading public. Very interesting!
Huge in their own minds maybe...
Nothing there I will be reading. A couple I would not read if you paid me.
I'm not very exciyed about any of ET's mentions. When I read the article I wondered what they were talking about. The only book on the list that remotely interests me is Krakauer's "Where Men Win Glory". Fortunately there are many other books out there! :o)
Hmm, unfortunately none of those are really calling my name. I'm much more excited about other books... I believe Margaret Atwood has a new one coming out.
Sounds like a lot of books published in September! I look forward to receiving Catching Fire! Seems like I'm the last person who haven't received her copy yet, and the wait is killing me!!
None of these are on my urgent list either, but I have liked the other Krakauer books I've read. That one will get added to my list.
I believe Michelle Moran's latest, Cleopatra's Daughter also comes out that week.
I am looking forward to the Ted Kennedy book. I've been waiting to hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak.
