Wordless Wednesday

Continuing on with my lighthouse series of Wordless Wednesdays, here is another one we found, this time on Cape San Blas, in the panhandle. Yes, it is another skeletal one, but I've become quite fond of them! I wish I had been able to get behind it, to show the beautiful coastal view. Half the fun in photographing these lighthouses in the panhandle are finding them...it is like hunting for hidden treasure!

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, Sandy. I find lighthouses intriguing... and especially creepy if on a rainy day! How I wish you had captured the scene of the coastal view!

Skeletal lighthouses--and in the panhandle, no less! Who knew? (not me, clearly) Why did they build them like that, rather than the traditional way? Hurricanes? Neat stuff!

Melody - yeah, I know. As you can see, there are woods pretty close to the backside of it, and I couldn't get the right angle to get the whole lighthouse in the picture. Suffice it to say, you could almost throw a rock from the lighthouse to the water, and that section of coast is undeveloped...no houses, no nothing.

ds - I think that lighthouse engineers felt this style of structure held up better to the hurricanes. I'm not sure that they actually did, because most of them have been ravaged, moved, restored or rebuilt, similar to the solid ones.

This is not at all what I'd think if you said Lighthouse to me. It's wonderful though, very unusual! My first time stopping by, will have to make sure I stop by again! Have a great day!

I like discovering these skeletal lighthouses through you. I'm going to have to keep my eye out for them next time I'm along the coast.

I can't say that in the past I have dthem, at least not the ones here in NJ, but maybe because the ones here are painted black for some reason and look a bit scary.

I will have to find out why that is.

should have said "that I liked them"...you might have figured it out but I did not want to tax you all.

I think these lighthouses are interesting, but I think I like the look of the traditional ones better.

That is a very different lighthouse. I love lighthouses although I have to admit I like the old fashioned kind better.

I love this photo. I haven't seen a lighthouse like this one before.
