Monday Movie Meme - The Great Race

This week's Movie Meme from the Bumbles is all about the Great Race. You know, the movies where there are dizzy, heart-racing pursuits through streets, alleys, over fences, for what seems like hours? I think about nine out of ten have them. It is, after all, on the checklist of what you must have if you are filming an action flick. There are some, however, that do stand out in your mind. Here are some of mine:
1. The French Connection - This is a repeat from the Bumbles, but I swear I'm not copying. It was the very first thing to come to mind. It's the chase scene to beat all chase scenes!
2. The Return of the Jedi - Remember Luke and Leia on those speeder bikes, racing through the trees? I can't remember what planet that was...my son probably would.
3. Thelma and Louise - You don't see every chase scene with the chasees intentionally running their ride off a cliff. You gotta love it.
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark - This movie had some cool things I'd never seen before as a kid. One standard that was set by this movie was the climbing under and over moving vehicles to get to the bad guy and beat him up.
5. Casino Royale - If pressed, you could identify a cool chase scene in just about any Bond film. Because I have seen this movie recently, and because Daniel Craig is a hottie, I will list the opening chase scene from this one...on foot, flinging themselves around on top of a high rise construction site, seriously intense!
What are your favorites?

A recent watch that had a great chase scene was Eagle Eye.

Oh, also - the Bourne films all have awesome action/chase sequences. :)

Thanks for playing - and no, I didn't see a post from you earlier today - weird.

We laughed through the entire Casino Royal movie - the Bond stunts are always so over the top. That's what makes them so great. I don't remember which one movie it was but there was a great one where Bond jumps out of a plane and lands on a mountain and skis down it while being pursued the whole way. Awesome.

Carrie - Eagle Eye, huh? I was torn on whether to spend the time to see it...I guess I should give it another thought! I love the Bourne movies, and you are right, they have great chase scenes. The Bumbles had listen them in their meme, and I didn't want to copy!

Bumbles - There is nothing like a Bond chase scene. Now that the kids are old enough to handle the "kissy-face" stuff, we are making our way through them. Just finished Goldfinger this evening!

Sandy - Eagle Eye was actually very good - an edge-of-your-seat thriller. I like Shia LaBeouf more and more.

Yo. Now your talkin'

District B13 (2004) Highly choreographed foot chase.
Divergence (2005) Yet another foot chase, this time in Hong Kong.
Ong Bak (2003) Foot chase, again, through the streets of Bangkok. Pure athleticism.
Project A (1983) Classic physical comedy and action from Jackie Chan.
Ditto on Casino Royale (2006) Sebastian Foucan is a "free-runner".
And I know that no one is being chased, but I gotta put Run Lola Run (1998) A race against the clock times three.

Carrie - I will definitely add this to my Netflix. The kids like Shia too, from Indy and Transformers.

Kath - I do look forward to your input. As expected, I've only seen Casino Royale and Run Lola Run. I absolutely loved Run Lola Run. It totally fits in this category!!!

Can I add the chase in What's Up, Doc? Everyone in the movie chases everyone else through the streets of San Francisco crashing into the bay. Silly and fun.

James - I just looked that movie up on Netflix. What a hoot! And it has a pretty loaded cast as well. I'm laughing at your description and my visual, and I haven't even seen it.

My first thought when I read this week's topic was Casino Royale's beginning chase scene, and was so glad you mentioned it. :-)

Another one that comes to mind: the car chase scene in The Bourne Identity which had me holding onto my seat for dear life when I saw it, cringing every time the car hit something.

Wendy - yeah, those Bourne movies rock! I didn't list them because I didn't want to steal two from the Bumbles!
