Awards and an opportunities to read more books

I was recently awarded the Literary Blogger Award from Iliana at a Bookgirl's Nightstand. Iliana reads all types of books, but she is a specialist in mystery/thrillers.

This beautiful award was sent to me by Desert Rose. Desert Rose is the premier authority on all things vampire, but isn't limited to this genre. She reads just about everything. She is also one of the most generous bloggers out there. I have her to thank for probably 75% of my awards.

I received this award from Carrie at Books and Movies. Carrie's reputation precedes her. She not only is a prolific reader, she reviews movies for us too! She also homeschools her four children while doing all of this blogging and reading and movie watching...she has always had my admiration, but it grows by the day since my kids have been out of school. I'm just saying.

If you haven't already, you should definitely check out these bloggers. They are a part of my daily addictions!

Speaking of addictions, we will be leaving for our two and a half week trip to Poland on Tuesday. The good news is that this will be a hardcore 17 day read-a-thon! The bad news is that I will leave behind our housesitter and our animals, and my COMPUTER! I will have virtually no Internet access while I am gone. While I know this is a healthy exercise for me, my stomach hurts thinking about it. Never fear though...this girl has a plan. Stay tuned for my "Bon Voyage" post on Tuesday for more details.

The kids were out of school for a week and two days before I was tempted into a mom's playdate. Three of us gathered our kids at one mom's home, we sent the kids off to swim, play videogames and destroy each other, and we drank sangria, ate munchies and yakked. It was good for the soul. The bonus from this gathering, though, is that I discovered that one mom belonged to a book club. I've been searching for a "real" book club forever, but most of them are light on book talk and heavy on bitching about husbands and gossiping about their neighbors, so I've declined. This one, I am assured, is the real deal. When I get back from my summer activities, I'm going to give it a go. Updates to come!

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday!

Have a great time, Sandy! We'll miss you, but mostly we'll be jealous. LOL! I would love to have 17 days to explore another country. It's been 12 and a half years since I went to Germany. I read all of Atlas Shrugged on that trip but the very end. I couldn't make myself read that final LONG sermon. I just couldn't. :)

It sounds like an absolutely wonderful trip! Have a great time and we will look forward to informative posts when you return.

Also, congratulations on finding a "real life" book club! I have also been in search of one for several years, with no luck. I hope this group is everything you desire a book club to be.

Aww...I'll miss you while you're away, but I trust you and your family will be having a great time and I look forward to all the details once you're back! :D

Travel safely and have fun. And take lots of photos! You'll have WW posts for the next several months. And let us know how that Kindle worked.

And I joined my first book club this year -- it's super. Hope yours is too.

Congrats on your well-deserved awards and the Mommy play date and the possible book group. Soooo necessary! And I am right there with you about the social groupings that are just bitch fests. Not for me either. Just don't need to know that you only sleep with your husband quarterly on scheduled days. Have a great vacation! I will miss you of course. Who will I turn to for occasional misbehavior? Happy reading, friend!

Jennifer - I agree with you...the sermon is a buzz kill! I am hoping to put a serious dent in my reading challenges! I am hoping I have the fortitude to write my reviews as I go...

Molly - I am looking forward to having about 6 months worth of Wordless Wednesdays, and a huge blob of reviews! I am also looking forward to the book club...we'll see!

Melody - I should have lots of details and pictures after I get back. Once I've recovered!

Beth - Oh you know it! WW is at the top of mind. This trip should get me through the end of the year hopefully! Things were getting a little tight there! Hence the fish pictures. I am pretty excited about the Kindle. I just pray it doesn't conk out on me! On Tuesday, I'm posting everything I've loaded on it. It is a long list!

Frances - You crack me up!!!! I'm all about bad behaviour. I have that streak in me. Time will tell on the book club. I, too, am not interested in everyone else's crappy sex life.

Carrie - I'm just upset that I'm going to miss your third installment of favorite fiction! You can bet I'm going to dig it up once I get back!

Amy - Thanks! So glad to see you on here. You are a popular lady in blogland...I need to get you on my reader!

Gavin - Thanks! I will! Camera is charged and ready!

Have a great trip, Sandy. Poland is a very interesting country, I am looking forward to your comments and photos.
I remember wonderful summer holiday play dates with my boys and my sister-in-law and her brood.......I'm not sure who had more fun, me and my sis or our chicklets! (think it was us actually, especially after a couple of Pimms ;)
Would love to find a book group here, hope yours turns out well.
Congrats on the awards and remember we will all be waiting for you when you get back.
Travel safely.

you can do it, leave that computer behind.

Of course, I took my wee netbook with me and had a great deal more internet access in the wilds of Alaska and the Yukon than I expected. But there was so much to do, I found I rarely signed on

Congrats on your awards Sandy - so very well deserved :)

You know, my husband and I travel to Germany every year and we go for a couple of weeks. I check in on the internet here and there, miss all my bloggy friends tons of course, but in a way, it's just really nice too to disconnect and enjoy life, family, books, new adventures... So hopefully you'll be having a grand time and won't miss the blog too much :)
