Sunday Salon: Sore muscles and a visitor from the north

Good morning all!  How are we doing this morning?  Earlier this week, we had a blast of cold but now it is back to gorgeous weather in the mid-70's.  Winter schminter.  This is why people migrate down here.

It seems when I am dieting, that is all I can focus on.  I love food, so when I am deprived of it, life takes on a different meaning.  It is literally ALL I CAN THINK OF!!!!  Not to mention my three-times-a-week with the uber-trainer Andre, who seems to desire only to make me feel pain.  I hope it pays off.  But this entire week, I've been walking like I've been riding a horse, and have floppy useless arms.

On Thursday, the kids went back to school, which was a very good thing.  They were getting bored and whiny, and on my last nerve.  I was able to fully clean my house in peace.  Then on Friday, my sister Kathie came to visit from Minnesota.  She brings with her fun, off-beat movies, and hardcore pot sticker-making skillz.  I'll be dragging her to Andre on Monday morning so someone else can feel my pain, and maybe even to my two book club meetings next week.  It is great to have her here.

Last night we all went out to one of our favorite restaurants these days called "Enzo's" to celebrate my husband's birthday.  Happy birthday honey!  I had to restrain myself from completely pigging out, but boy was it tasty.

As far as reading, I'm going to just lay it out.  I'm a loser.  I am the world's slowest reader, and I am getting frustrated.  If my life ever calms down (ha) then maybe I'll build up some momentum.  As it is, I have to be trapped on a plane to experience any productivity.  Anyway, I did finish "Unsaid" by Neil Abramson, and it was just a beautiful book.  I cried, but nobody is shocked by that one.  And I've just started "The History of History" by Ida Hattemer-Higgins, which has come highly recommended by Jackie. I'm three pages into it (loser, loser).

I'm still working my way through the audio of Uncle Stevie's "11/22/63".  When the kids are home, I am very rarely plugged in, so this was my issue.  Now I should be able to finish it up by mid-next week.  I am on disc 24 of 30, and I think it is safe to say that this is going to be one of my top reads of the year.  Holy moly I love this book.  Stevie has my number.

Today we are scheduled for church, horseback riding lessons, a movie perhaps, and steaks on the grill.  It doesn't get any better!  Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I just got the audio of 11/22/63 yesterday and was shocked that it's 30 CDs long - I've never listened to a book that long. My book club is reading it for January and February, so I'll just see how much I can listen to before our meeting next week. I sure hope it keeps my attention!

You are NOT a slow reader … you have a very full life! It is amazing you read at all.

And, in a fit of panic before the TBR Double Dare started, I downloaded 11/22/63 so I'm glad it is good! Should have done the audio perhaps -- even though it would take me 3 months to finish it!

My reading has gone exactly nowhere this year. I haven't finished a single book, and I've only read a chapter or two total. It's like I'm incapable of making a decision as to which I should read first.

You do have me excited to read "Uncle Stevie" (love it) as his book made the ILA short list for Spec Fic. I just have to get my hands on it first.

I'm on the ILA panel with Trisha so I'll also be reading the Uncle Stevie soon, which is exciting. Also, what Jenners said! It's amazing how much you DO read considering everything else you have going on.

The History of History, huh? Can't wait to hear what you think of that one.

I tip my hat to you for signing up with a personal trainer. I am expecting lots of entertaining updates about it in the future.

I am limping along with my reading right now. Something happened at work that upset me. I am okay, but it has created a lot of tension so when I leave for lunch to go read, I can't clear my mind enough to enjoy it. I don't see this week being any better.

Have fun with your sis!

I second Jenners: you are NOT a slow reader by any means, Sandy.11/22/63 is currently holding down a pile of papers in the kitchen--a Christmas gift to Mr. L-S. I suspect I will get to it first, maybe by 2063 : \ Enjoy your time with your sis!!

I don't think of you as a slow reader either! Quite the contrary as a matter of fact!!

Don't be so hard on yourself - life is just busy like that sometimes! I was thrilled to have my kids back at school too. :)

I used to be a fast reader but I've had to accept that that's no longer the case, I'm a slow reader, too. And when I've tried to change that I'mmiserable because I don't remeber what I've read. So it is what it is!
You have so much going on, Sandy, I think it's amazing you get any reading done not to mention post wonderful reviews!

Have a great week with your sister - maybe Andre will be a little gentle because you bring a guest!

You're definitely not a slow reader, Sandy, I am!! I'm always amazed by your multi-tasking and organized skills!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on "11/22/63".

You are an amazingly productive woman!! I hope you do bring your sister to book club, I'm really looking forward to meeting you face to face, and all the other ladies too.

Personally, I think you sound like you have been working your butt off with Andre, and I hope that the results you are getting are satisfying. I am trying to be good with the food thing, but today I was tempted with cake 3 times! That's just too much cake for a fragile snacker's sanity! I am glad that I didn't give in though! I am looking forward to book club this week, and just started The Leftovers on audio. It's strange, but quite interesting!

I don't think I'd read very much if I had to cram all the same things that you do into your life - especially with all the blogging you do. I'm struggling to keep up the blogging/reading at the moment and I don't do half the things that you do.

I'm pleased that you're trying The History of History. The only problem is that it is quite a complex book so may not be the best thing to start when you're struggling for time. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get past p3. Have a lovely week!

I wish I had the audio of 11/22/63 but I don't. Only the book so it'll have to do. The kids just started back to school here today. I can see them all trudging by the house this morning and not too quickly either. Lol. Hope you have a great with your sister!

I just won an audio copy if 11/22/63 and I'm excited to dig into it. I think I'm going to wait until I'm done with Bleak House, which might be a little while.
