2011 Book to Movie Adaptations - Mark Your Calendars!

Perhaps most of you already read Entertainment Weekly, so please forgive me if I am regurgitating information you already know. But this was just too exciting not to share - don't mind me while I jump around and flap my hands!!! Get out your e-calendars and write these down:

February 18 - I Am Number Four, teen aliens are yesterday's vampires...maybe

March 18 - The Lincoln Lawyer, for all the Connelly fans

April 22 - Water for Elephants, even though I am not buying the Pattinson thing

July 15 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, then we can all grieve

August 12 - The Help, where I will be first in line baby

November 18 - Breaking Dawn Part 1, not THAT excited, but it was a book

December 21 - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US), but it won't compare

Which ones are you going to see at the theater? Or will you wait and get it on Netflix? Any predictions on which ones will be blockbusters?

And oh, I will grieve once the last Harry Potter movie is released!

Also, I did not realise that The Help was being made into a movie..

And, hah, I saw part of the filming for the US version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or well.. I noticed it since I could not cross a particular Swedish town without having to walk around a lot of "you can't cross here, we're filming" signs. (And I know, that isn't cool at all, but I had never seen something like it before).

I will definitely be there for The Lincoln Lawyer, Water for Elephants and The Help. Too bad we don't live close to each other - we could go together!

Harry Potter for sure. And don't forget about Jane Eyre!

We are HUGE Netflix watchers, but today we are actually going to the movies! A rarity! We are going to see The Kings Speech. My Book Group is talking about seeing Water for Elephants together, that will be fun, otherwise it will join the rest on my Netflix queue.

I prefer them on netflix too - love being able to stop for the bathroom, and love no one talking during the movie (except my husband - GAAAHHHHH)

I read EW, but I'm still glad you posted this list. I can save it to my computer much easier than having to save the EW copy and try to remember where I stashed it when I want updates. LOL

Anyhow, it looks like quite a few movies are coming out based on books. I'm most looking forward to the final Harry Potter movie. Hubby's even volunteered to babysit so I can catch that one in the theater.

I do want to see Water for Elephants and The Help, but first want to read the books. I imagine I've got time as I can catch those on DVD.

I will most likely see Breaking Dawn although I have mixed feelings about it. It was my least favorite book in the series and I haven't been all that impressed with the movies so far. Another one that I'll catch on DVD. Along with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I hope it's worth it, but, like you, I'm skeptical.

We really need to live by each other! I keep going back and forth on Breaking Dawn. I've seen the other films in a sort of amused daze of disbelief, so I'm sure I won't really like the movie, but damned if I don't feel like I have to watch it.

Well, I want to start reading the Water for Elephants book that has been sitting on my shelves before April --- and I have marked August 12th on my calendar in BIG letters :)

I'm especially looking forward to Water for Elephants, but I have also heard that David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas is coming out this year and I will be the first in the queue to see that!

Is it bad whenever I hear that a book that I like is going to be made into a movie, I get a little sad?

I just came from ds's thirdstoreywindow, attracted by your post title. I'm a 'Book into Film' lover. Just FYI, I've recently made a list of over 40 books that will be adapted into movies, to be released this year or next. Just thought you might be interested to go through the list. Here's the link to my post: http://rippleeffects.wordpress.com/2010/12/02/upcoming-books-into-films/

Yay, Water For Elephants! I'm excited about that one. I actually think this will be Robert Pattinson's chance to break out of the Twilight funk. If he flubs it, well that may prove he's a flash in the pan. If he does well, he's broken free of typecasting :D I'm surprised that Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is being Americanized--it seems cheap. The Swedish version was awesome & I can't wait to read/see the last 2 books/movies and catch up with the rest of the world ;D

I'm going to see HP7 in theaters, definitely. Breaking Down I'll probably watch at home--then I can make fun of it.

DAWN. Hahahaha!

I think that's pretty awesome, Iris! I heard they changed the ending which is curious.

I will see I am Number 4 because of Timothy Olyphant!

hey! Let's keep a positive attitude about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Even if you are right and it will stink. :-)

If you enjoy subtitled films, you should check out the Swedish versions of the Stieg Larssen series - my husband and I saw the first one recently and loved it! The second one is in the queue!

I would so love to see The Help in the theatres but it never seems to work out that we see a movie outside my own home. ever. nevereverever - blame my husband.

I'm really excited about the final HP movie (tears are expected. I's skeptical, but still want to see Water for Elephants and I'm hopeful they've done The Help justice. We shall see.

I think I am up for all of them except the Twilight movie. This seems like it's going to be a great year for adaptations!

I'm so excited! I have The Lincoln Lawyer on my shelf at home ready to read before the movie comes out.
