This week's Monday Movie Meme from The Bumbles is all about the soundtracks. Sometimes there are none, other times they make an average movie memorable, and then there are those films where the soundtrack is the only thing going on. In thinking about this, I've decided that I can't really list Mamma Mia or Pink Floyd's The Wall, or other musicals, because if you take out the music, there isn't anything left. I will stick to those movies that were made just a bit better (happier, creepier, sadder) with its music:
The Exorcist - no, I wouldn't want to listen to this soundtrack while unwinding at the end of the day, but who can ever forget the haunting notes of Mike Oldfield?
Halloween - if ever there was music, when played, could instantly make me break out in a sweat as a teenager...
The Godfather - possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever made, and a stark contrast to the wicked violence of the mafia
Anything Bond - Hello! James Bond movies are known for their soundtracks...I've even considered downloading all of the movie songs on my iPod.
Shrek - for a kids' movie, the soundtrack rocks guys. I'm playing it for my movie-themed book fair this week, so I'll probably be sick of it in a few days!
Magnolia - Aimee Mann's vocals was the cherry on top of this awesome movie
The Last Temptation of Christ - For those of you that don't know, I am a Peter Gabriel psycho, so when he made the soundtrack for this movie titled Passion (for which he caught some slack), I was all over it.
Twilight - I had to throw this one on here...just watched the movie for the first time this weekend. It was entertaining, and if I were 25 years younger, I'd probably be watching over and over like my daughter is now. But what struck me was the great music. It made the movie, in my humble opinion.
I'm sure throughout the day, I am going to be hitting myself because of the ones I've forgotten, but there's only so much I can do at 5:30 in the morning! So...which ones are your favorites?

Some good choices (although have to confess I haven't seen the last two). Magnolia was on my list, and I was really close to putting Halloween on there too.
I've not heard of the albums you listed except Twilight! I agree it made the movie!
I wish I'm able to check emails/blogs like you at that hour! I woke up at 5 a.m. during weekdays for work and already I feel like a zombie, LOL.
Right with ya on the Bond music; they really sought out some great people. Peter Gabriel did Last Temptation of Christ?!! Now I have to see it (have only read book). But he also figures in an old Matthew Broderick flick about monkeys in a lab. Guess which song. Uh huh. ;)
May I also put in a plug for O Brother, Where Art Thou? That folky, bluesy music really makes the movie--which ain't bad to start with, given that it's the Coen brothers & stars George Clooney *sigh*
I love your mix of selections! And I agree with ds - "O Brother, Where Art Thou" was a tremendous soundtrack - and the movie was good too.
My personal favorite is for the movie Amelie...
Slumdog Millionaire is also pretty darn good.
I remember when Oldfield's Tubular Bells was the cool album to own....Gee I'm old.
Movies were so much more fun when a soundtrack was more than a collection of popular songs added on at the last minute.
I'd add The Good the Bad and the Ugly to your list. The operatic music at the end gets me going every time.
Eerie Tapestry - you have some interesting ones too...not your normal, expected movies. I love it!
Melody - 5 am is the only time I have any peace! The downside is that my mind is running pretty slow...
ds - Gabriel's soundtrack for The Last Temptation is powerful. Strange as it may seem, I even work out to some of the tracks from that soundtrack! As soon as I posted, I gasped because I'd forgotten about O Brother, Where Art Thou? See, I needed to wake up a little more!
Bumbles - I know, I can't believe I forgot that one. Shame on me!
Rebachin - I loved the movie Amelie! But for some reason I'm not remembering the music??? Haven't seen Slumdog yet, but it is on my Netflix Q!
James - I know, I feel old too. We have Tubular Bells, as well as many other Oldfield selections. I don't think I've seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly! I always enlarge my Netflix Q from your recommendations!
Shrek and Magnolia! I love those as well. This was fun. I could have gone on forever with my list. :-)
I wanted to do this meme today - but I ran out of time. :(
The soundtracks I remember most are the ones I was playing on the piano for my lessons:
Star Wars
Brian's Song
Superman
The Thorn Birds
Arthur
The Way We Were
Those are the first few that came to mind. :)
you picked some really creepy soundtracks!
Now that reminds me that I've got The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ forever on my shelf! I need to get to work... :)
