Monday Movie Meme - Where the Wild Things Are

This week's Monday Movie Meme is all about those furry, non-speaking creatures that capture our hearts on the silver screen. The Bumbles were inspired this week by their two kittens that raise hell and destroy every thing in sight every time Molly and Andy leave the house (I know where you're coming from on this one!). As Andy so appropriate said "cats don't follow orders". What are your favorite movies that feature amazing animals that make the film that much more special? Granted, there are some BAD ones out there (Hotel for Dogs? Please!) Here are some of my favorites:

Lassie - Lassie was the daddy of all animals movies in my mind. Never mind all the sequels, but the original changed us as kids. And made us all want collies.

Homeward Bound - You gotta love a movie where the cat orders the dogs around. This one brings tears to my eyes every time the kids watch it. I'm such a sap.

Old Yeller - Dare ya not to cry. Damn movie.

Because of Winn Dixie - My husband accuses me of liking this one because Dave Matthews is in it. I think he's right.

Two Brothers - this movie makes you want to take a couple of tiger cubs in as pets, against your common sense. It may have been a bit contrived, but I did really love this movie. I mean, tigers and Guy Pierce? What's not to love?

Babe - I've watched this one at least a couple of dozen times myself. Many times without the kids. It is possibly one of the sweetest movies ever made, which is an accomplishment considering it's about a pig!

Best in Show - I will bring up this movie at any chance I have. Since it's a spoof about the Westminister Dog Show, and has lots of animals in it (lest we forget the weimereiner who can't perform without her busy bee), I must include it, even though The Bumbles had it on their list too!

What animals movies are your favorites? Don't by shy, I won't make fun!

My kids loved Milo and Otis when they were young! There is just something perfect about Dudley Moore's voice in that movie!

My own personal favorite is Nationl Velvet. The girl, the horse, the beautiful scenery. Ahhh!

Some good choices. Babe made my list too, great movie. Never seen "Old Yeller", even though I've heard it mentioned loads of times; I'll have to hope it turns up on TV one of these days.

Homeward Bound, absolutely. Old Yeller, ditto. And I'm with Susan re Milo & Otis and National Velvet. Biggest faves here? Black Beauty, The Black Stallion, Seabiscuit (note pattern)--and Free Willy. Keep trying to see Best in Show but am outvoted by someone who believes the Wookie is an actual species ;)

Those are good ones. I would add Benji to the list. Oh, how I loved Benji when I was growing up!

I know all about cats raising hell. And dogs too. LOL

I loved Babe too - why is that never on TV? Such a sweet little piggy.

I have two wonderful dog movies

Far From Home is about a boy and his yellow lab who end up stranded in the Alaska wilderness. In one scene he tells to dog to "go home" and follows him.

The other is My Dog Skip which is about a shy little boy and how his dog helps him make friends.

Both are little seen these days for some reason. Both are realistic, no talking dogs in either. Both have a high recommendation from me, too.

I also love Harry and Tonto, which is not at all for kids but is about an older man who travels across America with his cat Tonto. Art Carney got an Oscar nomination for his performance.

Sandy -

I remember watching one Lassie film as a child (maybe Lassie Come Home, is that even a title?) where Lassie hurt his foot and was trying to get home. There was a railroad track...

Anyways, I was so upset at poor Lassie; it was over for me. There's no way I could handle Old Yeller.

I CAN NOT watch sad animal movies. People get killed, whatever. But a doggie or a kitty {{sob}}

I have yet to watch Bambi.

I loved Homeward Bound as a kid! I watched it so many times. Old Yeller was good, but sad. I haven't seen any of your other mentions.
