When I started blogging, I immediately jumped into a daily posting schedule, reading and writing like a madwoman. I made friends (lifelong ones I hope) and our blogging community was small and warm and intimate and invigorating and innovative. We had things to say, we supported one another, we gave each other awards, we met in person. But over time it changed, it got crowded and competitive and sterile and a bit...juvenile. My kids became teenagers, and slowly I trimmed down my pace to four days a week, then twice a week, and now I only post on Sundays. My posts are starting to sound like a broken record...I'm busy running around, my reading is in a slump, blah blah. I'm bored with myself and I'm sure you are bored with me too!
And recently we got Brody, and what attention and time I had is now devoted to him. OK, let's stop for a couple of pictures.

I also realized that what I DID say on the blog, I said it on Facebook as well. My Goodreads "reviews" (if that is what you want to call them) post on Facebook, my pictures all get posted there, the movies I see get posted there on Letterboxd, and if there is something really on my mind, it gets discussed there.
So what's the point?
I still plan on roaming around and reading a few of your blogs, because I do still want to know all the shiny new pretty books I need to read. And I care about what is going on with all of you.
So on that note, I'm going to sign out here, take my current book that I'm averaging 5 pages a day on, and sit in the sun with my dog and read until I fall asleep.

It is through this blog that I got to know you so for that, I am very very grateful.
It is the end of an era. I appreciate how you feel. God knows I've been there many timea over. I've stayed as long as I have for the community, but it has gotten juvenile. Who needs the drama? Life is too damn short. I wish you the best and will always be your friend. Thank you for all of your support over the years. I'm so glad you're a happy puppy mama.
This makes me sad but I get where you're coming from. I'll be sure to keep in touch through FB.
So glad we have Facebook. And I get what you mean. Blogging felt redundant for me, too. And you have BRODY!!!!! And I agree with Lit Housewife...we've got new and better things. Besides, I've got to catch up on all the books you've recommended to me. :) Love you and see you over on FB!
This is a sad time. I'm thankful I live close to you, and follow you on FB. Live evolves, and the change in book blogging community isn't all for the better. Sad times.
I choked up reading Michele's post, even though she'd told me it was coming.
I'll be seeing you soon.
I will miss your weekly updates, but I do follow all of your goings-on on Facebook, so I understand how you would want to simplify. I post once or twice a month at this point on my blog because the mood still strikes me once in a while to talk about books in my own space. It certainly isn't the same as it once was though. I guess that's just life moving forward - things can't stay the same forever.
aw, totally understandable, but I can't help but feel sad. All the best, friend!
What Amy said!! I too will miss the weekly updates but with everything that has been going on lately I completely understand.
Wishing you all the best, Sandy. I will see you on Facebook. :-)
So sorry to see you go :( I'm tempted all of the time because I really don't have time to do it the way I want to but I'm still hanging on because it makes me sit and do something for me and not my kid - a rarity these days.
But, I'll keep up to date with you and Brody on Facebook and Goodreads and maybe Letterboxd if I ever find the time to do it again :)
What Ti said.
I completely understand. Your blog will be missed. So glad we've gotten to know each other on Facebook. Loving the Brody pics!!! :)
So sad that you're saying goodbye to blogging, Sandy, but I totally understand.
See you around on FB! :)
I am never bored with what you have to share... but understand the need for change at this time in your life. Your presence in the blogosphere will certainly be missed, but I look forward to staying connected via Facebook and GoodReads.
Sandy, I'm going to miss your blog big time! Thank goodness we are connected on facebook and goodreads because I do want to keep up with pics of Brody, reading, vacation, you know all the fun stuff in life :)
But, you have to do what feels right for you so enjoy your time away from the blog and see you on FB.
As you ride off into the sunset I stand by the fence post screaming, "Shane! Come back, Shane! Come back!"
Well, it is a great exit scene. The book and the movie are both terrific. Wishing you all the best in whatever life brings next.
I will miss your updates, especially since I don't do Facebook. I'll see you over at Goodreads.
Will miss your blog no end, but I truly understand. My posts are getting further and further apart. For every new book I read, there's an old one I want to reread. Happy we have FB. Love the Brody posts. And maybe we can actually get together! Meanwhile, thank you for all your support. Nancy
Aw, I'm sad too! Even when I don't comment I read and enjoy all your posts. It's easier to miss that on FB.
That said, you definitely shouldn't blog if it's not fun for you anymore. Just, you know, don't give up completely, :)
sorry to see you go. I really enjoy reading book reviews by different book bloggers, and I'm grateful some persevere many years
Sad times, but you're right. I see more of you on facebook than I do on your blog. The golden years of blogging are over, but at least blogging put us in touch with each other and I hope we can continue our online friendship and meet up again one day.
How sad, but I understand what you're saying! You were one of the first book bloggers I ever "knew" from when I first discovered the book blogging world. You were a true inspiration! Facebook is where I'm starting to spend less time, as I continue to discover new book bloggers that I somehow have overlooked all these years, but I'll look for you on Facebook!
I'm sad to see this post Sandy, but totally understand your decision. At least I can keep up with you (and Brody's escapades) on FB and goodreads. Tale care.
I will miss seeing your posts here, but I understand how it can get redundant. I don't use Facebook much myself, but I just friend requested you so I can follow along there. All your puppy pictures on there are so cute!!
I know you've been thinking about this for awhile, so I'm not shocked, but I'll miss you! You know we still have to catch up when we're in the same state!
I am sad, but I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm at the point of making some decisions of my own, too, as my life is taking on a new dimension that will not allow time for blogging. It seems like this has been a season of time for many of us, and now that season is over. Not a bad thing, just a change.
I've loved your blog and have loved getting to know you, and I will miss the blog but I wish you all the best and I hope we can stay in touch through Facebook! :-)
I am horrified but I completely get it. :)
This is sad. :( But totally understandable. I'm so glad you're updating everything on Facebook, though! I, also, have taken lengthy breaks between posts because of not ever having enough time, so I can relate. I've not seen a lot of the drama in the past year, but that is only because I'm horrible with reading everyone's blogs.
Hey, I'm only a couple of hours from you now! We have to meet up at some point. If you ever head my way, even to Saint Augustine, let me know. I'll make the trip. And that cute little doggie is JUST ADORABLE. I love all of your pictures! I'm still watching what you read and listen to because those are some daggone good recommendations. :)
So sorry to see you go but happy for whatever is next for you! I have enjoyed reading your posts!
Great pup! Enjoy your time away!
It's bad enough that you're going away, but did you have to play the sad song as well?
I'm super behind on reading blogs, so sorry to be so late in saying that we'll miss you! But of course there's Facebook and you have Brody and all things have a season before we move on. Enjoy!
I am really going to miss you Sandy. Yours was one of the first blogs that I read and we did that Rebecca readalong together oh so many years ago. I drifted away from my blog a few years ago and ended up on You Tube/Book Tube with my own channel. I read your weekly posts but rarely comment. I wish you all the best and hope you will pop your head up every once in awhile! All my best, Kathleen
