24 hours of fun coming right up!

Good morning all of you readathoners (and curious bystanders)!  Are we all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed?  I'm terribly excited to be participating in my second Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon.  Last year, I participated partially with my kids.  They have declined the precious bonding moment with their mother this year, so in a new minutes I will head down to my parent's house next door with my books and get started.

A couple of new goals this time around.  First, no junk food.  The worst thing that I might consume is popcorn.  I am making some efforts to lose a pound or two, and last year was a tad too decadent (hmmm...maybe that is why the kids opted out this time around?).  Second, I'm going to stay away from my computer.  It was the devil's spawn last year, and I think I blogged more than I read.  I am not going to partake in the hourly challenges, or provide updates, except maybe the one that says I'm giving up and going to sleep.  I will keep one eye open for posts from Raych, because she entertains me and makes me laugh.

So.  What of the books?  Right now I am about halfway through Sophie Hannah's "Little Face" on my Kindle, and the first task is to finish.  Then I will select from this pile:

The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating - Elisabeth Tova Bailey (from SIBA)
Mercy Creek - Matt Matthews (ARC from Hub City Press)
Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson (won from JoAnn ages ago)
Recovery - Alexandrea Weis (sequel to "To My Senses"!!!!)
Caribou Island - David Vann (won from Natalie)
The Invention of Hugo Cabret - Brian Selznick (borrowed from my kids)

I'll let the spirit move me when I go choose the first one.  Any suggestions?Good luck to all of you!  Let's start turning some pages!

Great pile! Speak is an great readathon read, and I'm interested in your reviews of the rest. Good luck with readathon- I'm doing a few audio books to get me through my online addictions. ;)

The Hugo Cabret book will move very fast - mostly pictures - but don't wait until you are too tired to read it as it's truly unique. :-)

Hugo Cabret is perfect for a readathon - you can knock it off in an hour! No popcorn? Readathon? doesn't compute! :--)

Rooting for you vicariously--what a great selection of books! Gave Hugo Cabret to my nephews last year & believe both loved it. Laurie Halse Anderson is amazing.

Have fun--and stay awake!

Staying away from the computer - or at least sticking to some sort of schedule - is a good idea if you want to get any reading done! Happy Reading!

It's the eye of the reader, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our bloggers
And the last known survivor stalks his books in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger

You can do it and rock the roof off the readathon!!!

I'm here from the cheer squad to wish you a great Readahon! I may try to coerce my family into joining me for an hour or so later, but for now I've kicked them out of the house :-). Keep on readin', and have fun!

Hugo Cabret is at my library. I'm annoyed with myself for not checking it out for the Readathon.
Happy reading,
Bybee
