Sunday Salon: A Few Days Early

Hello friends! I am actually writing my Sunday Salon on Thursday, so I am cheating a little bit. I leave this evening to attend a three-day religious retreat called Cursillo. I am not allowed a phone, a computer or an iPod. I am miles from my house, on a secluded campus with about 40 other women. My husband attended the men's Cursillo last fall, but refuses to tell me what is going to happen, except that it will change my life, and I will come home mentally exhausted. Anyway, I couldn't NOT post a Sunday Salon, so you are getting the Thursday edition.

Let's just say it has been a crazy week, full of dentist appointments, various doctor appointments, a school play, setup for the book fair next week, and a golf tournament. I left my A game at home for the tournament...it was shameful. But I did win a raffle prize consisting of a huge basket of Irish things plus other stuff...Irish whisky, Irish tea, a tea strainer, St. Patrick's Day socks and t-shirt, chocolate golf balls (mmmm), wine charms, St. Patrick's Day dishtowels...you name it. So that was cool. I guess it made up for the 2 billion balls I hit into the water.

I managed to exercise just a tad more than the week before. Not much more, but a tad. Once the book fair is over with next week, I'm back on the case.

I still continue to read Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk About Kevin, and I'm completely invested. I just haven't had much sitting time, so I'm not even quite halfway through it. After I finished The Swan Thieves on audio, I went right into Mystic River by Dennis Lehane (loved it, but not as much as Shutter Island), and am nearly through David Sedaris's Me Talk Pretty One Day, which is good for what ails ya. The kids and I have less than TWO DISCS left on Harry Potter 5, and should wrap that up next week.

I happened to read somewhere this past week that the Dewey 24-Hour Read-a-thon is happening on April 10th. Is this true? We have no volleyball games that day, the Adult Literacy League event is on the 9th, so I'm thinking I might be able to participate this time! I sure hope so! And maybe I can convince my daughter to do it with me!

So I will go incommunicado this evening, so you won't my yackity-yack around for awhile. In fact, you may not have me around much next week, as the book fair is like a full-time plus job. But I promise friends, I WILL be back!!!!

Wow, the retreat sounds intense! I hope you enjoy it. (If not, it sounds like there is plenty in your raffle prize to help make you feel better!)

April 10. I think that's the first day of Spring Break this year. I might actually be able to paricipate.

Have fun and I hope you'll tell us how it went. I also have been to the dentist this week and it was very unpleasant!

Have fun being unplugged for a while! The Dewey Readathon is April 10th, and I think I'm going to give it a go again, even though I didn't get even one whole book finished last time. But I will try!

I hope you are having a good time, Sandy! Your past week sounds like my upcoming week. Lots of appointments in between work and meetings. I've been having to work a lot of overtime lately which takes a lot out of me.

I am glad you are enjoying We Need to Talk About Kevin. I hope to get to that one eventually.

I hope the book fair continues to go well. Have a great week, Sandy.

I do believe the read-a-thon is that weekend. I may skip it this time. I get so burnt out afterward that I may skip it this time and just cheer for the readers. I haven't decided for sure yet.

You'll be missed, Sandy! I hope you have fun!

I'm currently reading Shutter Island and am loving it! (Of course I've to read the book first since the movie will be released here next month!)

Good luck with the book fair - have fun! That would be great if you have time for the readathon. I participated in the fall, but won't be able to this time. I'm hoping to have time to be a cheerleader though.

you are always so busy, I hope you enjoy the retreat and find it if not relaxing, at least beneficial. and yes, you will have to share with us about it.
I have been on a few retreats but nothing I would describe as mental exhausting.
we will be here, patiently awaiting your return.

Hope you had a good time at the retreat! And I can't wait to hear your thoughts on We Need to Talk About Kevin. It took me awhile to get into that book, but once I did...wow...that's all I can say about it.

You are surprisingly adept at winning raffles! You might just have to start playing the lottery! I am amazed by the amount of books you have gotten read and I can't wait to hear about We Need to Talk About Kevin. I have heard it's an intense read. I hope you have a wonderful time at the book fair and that you get to finish the Sedaris soon. It's an awesome read!

Have fun at the book fair Sandy. I haven't heard or read anything about the read-a-thon since I have, literally, been out of the loop seeing my family in Hong Kong. I do have sacked a bunch of British mysteries. Love all the UK editions here! :)

I'll look forward to reading about your weekend.
