Sunday Salon: Zombieland

Top 'o the morning to you my friends! I woke up this morning to the same old crappy, steamy heat outside.  I'm REALLY ready for just a wee touch of fall.  Anyday.  That would be great.  You know, to go along with all that wonderful pumpkin stuff out there on the market.  It does look like we dodged a tropical storm this time though.  So all is not lost.

Busy week this week.  I decided to go for broke and cram in a couple of doctor's appointments for myself...orthopedist on Monday and dermatologist on Tuesday. Good news?  Despite my German skin and high school baby oil fixation, I have nothing on me that needs a biopsy.  Bad news is that I have carpal tunnel in the right hand which required a rather painful steroid shot and a splint at night.  Getting old kinda sucks.  Also got a flu shot this week, just for sport.

I also got a rather shitty round of golf in this week (thanks to the carpal tunnel).

We had the weekend off from Cross Country, but the boys played their weekly game and slaughtered their poor opponents 37-0.

Because we sorta-kinda had Friday off, (at least we didn't have to get up the next morning at 4:30) I took the kids to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando.  This is something my daughter and I do every year, but this year the boy came.  As usual, I pop for Express Passes because otherwise it takes 2 hours to get through a haunted house.  It was incredible.  You may remember we watched some movies in preparation, and it paid off.  I think the best house was the one for "Cabin in the Woods".  I think the house may have been better than the movie.  And if you like "The Walking Dead" on TV, you would have loved the hundreds (not an exaggeration) of zombies walking in the dark streets among the visitors.  It was freaking insane.

So reading?  What of reading?  On audio, I wrapped up Rainbow Rowell's "Attachments" which was cute and was one of those books that makes your heart happy.  I'm now about halfway through Diane Keaton's memoir "Then, Again", which focuses on her career and her mother's battle with Alzheimer's.  (I absolutely love some of her earlier movies.  Baby Boom?  My fantasy. Not to mention the awesomeness of The Godfathers and Annie Hall.)

In print I'm still plugging through "Ender's Game" and I love it.  I don't have much time for print reading, but I'm hoping to finish it within the next few days.  This really is an amazing story for it's time, and I cannot wait for the movie.

Today we have church and then my daughter and I have a four-hour adoption event at a local Petco.  Cross your fingers that we are able to find many furever homes for these doggies.

Hope everyone has a wonderful, cool (!), restful day.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the furbabies :):)
Getting old sucks...such a true statement. Haven't been able to run due to a pinched nerve in my shouldner/neck, so I'm about as grumpy and short as a 45 year old woman can be! Rarrrrhhhh!!! :)

I swear we're living in parallel universes, although I would never consider Zombieland! Right now, I'm at the point where I feel like all I do is go to the doctor and I'm healthy - what do sick people do?

Hi, Sandy-frequent reader, seldom commerntor here. I wanted to tell you that you totally changed my view of audiobooks. I never listened much, but a few years ago I came across your blog and you inspired med to give them a shot, and now I freakin' love them! I always have to have one in my car now and you inspired me to ask for an arm band for my iphone so I can listen while doing yard wok (genius, by the way,). I love your reviews.

My husband is working in Orlando in two weeks so we are taking asvantage of his work paid airfare to take a long weekend vacation. We've been wanting to go to Harry Potter world for years and I'm super excited to be there for the haunted houses. I was wondering if you had some tips or restaurant recommendations? Thanks so much!

aw so sorry to her about the carpal tunnel hope it heals soon!

Question about the Halloween Horror Nights...are they scary or just fun? Like I really can't stand haunted houses were people leap out at me or follow me around with a chainsaw with something. I mean..is it like that?

I concur --- getting old sucks! So sorry about the carpel tunnel....

How I wish we lived closer to such great entertainment activities as Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. The Friday outing sounded so fun.

And I so want to read my copy of the Ender's Game before the movie release. I think I will take off my shelf now ...

I hope that all the furry friends find permanent homes!!

Love Diane Keaton and Baby Boom is one of my all-time fave movies-- one of those I will always stop and watch if I see it on one of the cable channels. Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it! I still get teary when she rounds that corner and sees Elizabeth at the end and you just know she's where she needs to be. Sigh.

Thanks to another well-timed mention by you, I just snagged the cd of the book at my library. Yes!

So sorry about the doctors! Knock on wood, I don't do anything more than annual checkups.

How fun to see the Zombies!

How did the adoption event go? I hope well!

I need to schedule a couple of doctor's appointments, but I keep putting it off. I've had carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists for years--it comes and goes. So, I know what a pain it can be.

The Halloween Horror Night sounds like so much fun! I can't wait until Mouse is older and we can go to stuff like that.

Have a great week, Sandy!

Without audio, my reading would be nonexistent lately!

I liked Attachments too - definitely cute fun reading. I really need to line up some routine doctor appointments but have been putting it off. Not my favorite things to do. As for the horror stuff - glad you had fun, also glad I don't have to do it. :)

Oh I hope your carpel tunnel heals! Did the doctor give you any exercises to do to strengthen your muscles? I don't know if you actually do that for CT.

Got my flu shot too! :)

Hope you are having a great week!

Twinsies! Between your carpal tunnel and my pinched nerve, we are twinsies!! I have to wear a splint too. Well, I am supposed to.

I am so jealous of your Halloween Horror Nights. No one will go with me and there is no way I am going by myself.

We are supposed to get some rain tomorrow. We'll see if it happens. It was too darn hot to hang anything up and the wind was sucky.

I love Baby Boom. I need to get this one. Can't wait for the Ender's Game movie.
