Good morning dear friends. Hope this post finds everyone relaxing from a busy week. This week was a bit of an improvement from the last. My son still had some stomach issues early in the week, but we got a medication for nausea (apparently one used by chemo patients) and that got him through the week. He seems to be feeling much better now. He was back in the groove with football, and they absolutely creamed their opponents yesterday. My daughter had a decent run in cross country. All was well on that front.
I attended a book club meeting on Thursday night to discuss "And the Mountains Echoed" by Khaled Hosseini. Unfortunately, we spent about five minutes talking about the book and the remaining two and half hours talking about swollen feet, nausea and weak bladders as half of group is pregnant. (I stayed FAR away from their water glasses, thanks.) Oh well. One of these months we will get back to discussing books. Until then, I'll call it wine club and will still happily attend.
I started reading "Ender's Game" in preparation for the upcoming movie, but honestly, I had a very hard time concentrating because on Tuesday, Stephen King's long-awaited sequel to "The Shining" came out called "Doctor Sleep". (I actually woke up at 3:30 that morning to powder my nose and just went ahead and downloaded it to the Kindle. I almost stayed up and started it right then and there.) You know, thank God for Kindles. I love not having to wait, or rush out to get the book. So anyway, I dove into this baby and pretty much did THE MINIMUM this week. I just fed my family, cleaned the house, and cleaned the ceiling fans (lest my husband catch on) and the rest of the time I read. I'm somewhere around 85% so I am hoping to get very close to finishing the book today.
On audio, I spent most of the week listening to "The Doll" by Taylor Stevens, the third installment of the Vanessa Michael Munroe series. For the first third of the book, I almost stopped listening. I just couldn't care what was going on, and it made me weary. But then it picked up and I ended up really liking it. It is a very worthy addition to the series. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes strong female characters who are clever and very badass.
I finished up all the reviews I'm going to publish on the blog...at least for now. That felt weird, and a little bit wonderful.
I am still obsessed with Breaking Bad. We've watched two episodes of Season 5, and are closing in on the end (which will actually air this Sunday I think, but we won't be watching that until we are ready). I think I've probably said this before, but this is TV like I've never seen. It is something very special, and highly addictive.
So today we have church, my daughter and I have a four-hour dog adoption event at a Pet Smart, and then pray tell maybe I'll finish "Doctor Sleep". Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

I have to say that all the Internet excitement about the finale is making me want to check out Breaking Bad.
Wine club definitely still sounds worth attending :D I think it's inevitable that the social aspect of a book club will win out over the discussion sometimes, and that's not at all a bad sign.
Enjoy the rest of Doctor Sleep and have a great Sunday!
We just started Breaking Bad and are still on season 1. We like it just fine, but it hasn't totally clicked with us yet.
My oldest daughter watches Breaking Bad. I watched the first two episodes. I thought it was going to be pure drama but it has a deadpan wit to it. My husband didn't care for it too much so we stopped watching, but maybe I will continue on my own on Netflix.
Great day you are having today! Hope your adoptathon goes smoothly and many of those there find forever homes.
I am hearing only good buzz about Doctor Sleep! I will just have to get it and push some of my other books aside. Enjoy your week!
I feel that it might be important to note that in our "wine club" full of pregnant people, only us non-preggers actually drink wine. ;)
But yes I agree ... one of these meetings we might actually discuss the book. I think it's easier to discuss them when there are mixed feelings ... when we all love it, it's pretty much a gushfest and then let's move on to other topics. As is what happened on Thursday, I think.
I still need to read the Shining.... but perhaps I can now read that one and its sequel in succession.
I have Ender's Game and would also like to read it before the movie's release.
Your relaxing reading week sounds divine :)
Just wanted to say that your comment on my blog this morning made me laugh out loud. :-)
My book club is a more like a wine club too. I enjoy my time there, but wish I had a book club as well as a wine drinking club!
I wasn't that interested in 'Enders Game' at the beginning, but it is worth it as the ending is amazing. Enjoy!
We're planning to start Breaking Bad soon... think I'm the only one not watching it! So happy my book club is mostly back to talking about books again. We've been through pregnancies, middle school crisis, high school sports drama, and college applications. It's only a matter of time until grandchildren!!!
I get frustrated when my book club doesn't discuss the book when it's a book I didn't enjoy because I struggled through it for the discussion that never happened.
I hadn't finished listening to the book, but I really need to re-commit to book club, if nothing else than an evening out, and a little book talk. Good grief many pregnant?
We haven't watched Breaking Bad..maybe we'll be late comers to the fad.
I've already started hearing great things about Doctor Sleep so I'm looking forward to your review. Have a great week ahead, Sandy!
You powder your nose in the middle of the night? Just who are you sleeping with? ;)
I wasn't as thrilled with The Doll for the first half, either, but it did pick up. Still a great series.
Maybe you should still do your Sunday Salon posts for those of us who will miss you!
I am 45% into Doctor Sleep. I slowed down a bit with all the drama going on. Today is no better. Choir conflict and the choir director, thinking she was helping, asked the x country coach is Evan could miss practice and now Evan is this close to getting kicked off. What a mess!
Glad your son is doing better this week Sandy. I'm listening to Doctor Sleep and loving it. It's a great audio. I'm not as far as you but already I'm not too happy when I have to go back to the book I'm supposed to be reading for review. Lol.
Hope you have a good week!
Have a great month off, Sandy, and hope to see you in November! You know you want to review Doctor Sleep. :)
I can't wait to hear what you will think about Dr. Sleep.
I haven't seen Breaking Bad myself, but I think my husband may be in the middle of the second or third season. I will get around to watching it eventually, I am sure. Probably not until next summer.
I am glad your son is feeling better. I think someone or another was sick in my house through most of September. Hopefully August will be better.
I hope you enjoy Doctor Sleep! Have a great rest of the week, Sandy.
I hope you end up liking Ender's Game, I listened to the audio in 2008 and ended up loving it. I haven't read the sequels, but Jason has and he's not recommending them.
I wouldn't mind joining a wine club with a side of books. That might be all I can handle these days!
Oh my gosh Breaking Bad was incredible! No spoilers, but it's so good!
