Sunday Salon: Hot Hot Hot

Good morning one and all.  I had intended to write this post last night, but I fell asleep on my bed with my clothes on.  That was the kind of day...WEEK...I had!  It was ungodly hot this week, and my various activities (first golf league of the season, my son's football game, the high school football game, cross country meet, Andre workouts) caused me to sweat so much that I wondered if at some point I would just shatter and blow away in a cloud of dust.  Seriously, I couldn't drink enough fluids to keep up.  Thus the whole passing out thing last night.

So it was great to start up with golf again.  It's not much fun to be teeing off with sweat dripping down your nose, but great to see the ladies again.  Such a happy group.  My son's football team, if you recall, has had a history of being pretty good, and they continue their performance with a win yesterday 39-0.  Unfortunately my daughter did not have her best run yesterday after having the crud for a couple of weeks on top of what seems like an insane amount of homework.  I honestly don't remember high school being THIS bad.

We continue to have problems with our Internet provider.  It goes in and out (predictably it goes out as soon as the kids get home from school and desperately need the connectivity for their homework), and when I call technical support, they blame my router.  Because they are idiots and don't know what they are doing.  One day the kids just sat there, wide-eyed, as I screamed at one of them and hung up.  It seems like having an Internet signal should be our right as human beings!!!

I was totally excited that Melissa (Avid Reader's Musings) and her husband were down here from Indiana on vacation at the beach, and decided to come over to Orlando to visit Islands of Adventure (primarily for Harry Potter World).  We met at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville for lunch, right outside the park gate, for an air conditioning and food break.  It was so nice catching up with them, they are good people.  I try to see Melissa every time I'm in Indiana, so it was nice to have her down here.

Since making public my decision to turn off the blog in November, I have felt a wave of peace run over me.  I DO have a few more reviews that I need to write to get me through that time, but that is OK.  I have decided to join Goodreads as a way to keep track of what I'm reading, so PLEASE PLEASE if you have an account, friend me if we haven't connected yet (Sandy Nawrot is my full name).  If you don't have an account, it is super easy to set up and you can get an app for your phone (I'm talking to you mom).  I have also decided that I'll continue to write my Sunday Salons.  They don't even really count as blogging in my mind, because they easy and fun to write.

So!  Reading!  What did I accomplish this week?  I did finish "The Girl You Left Behind" by Jojo Moyes.  I ended up liking this book, but it was very strange how I could not invest in the first plot thread.  Once the second one kicked in, I was fine.  I am now reading a memoir called "My Year With Eleanor" for my book club.  It is OK, fairly easy reading but is kind of a knock-off from Julie & Julia, or Eat Love Pray, or whatever.  I ordered a bunch of books from the library and they all showed up at once, so I'm anxious to dig into those.  Must read faster.

On audio, I finished "Tell the Wolves I'm Home" by Carol Rifka Brunt...such a raw, vulnerable book about coming of age and AIDS in the 80's.  I also listened to "The Never List" by Koethi Zan, an action-packed book about four girls held hostage in a basement, and their need for retribution years later.  I've now just started "Kiss Me First" by Lottie Moggach, a thriller about a sheltered young woman who gets sucked into an online underworld.

So what does everyone have on their Sunday agendas?  I think we are passing on the animal shelter today because of homework angst, so probably just church, grocery store, and a little bit of laying around before I have to take the hubby to the airport for a business trip.  Have a great Sunday everyone!

We had internet issues for a while last year. Turns out, it WAS the router. Got a new one and haven't had a problem since. I hope they can get your issues solved soon. I can imagine how frustrating not having connectivity is for your kids - kind of how when my kids were in grade school and told me at six on a Sunday night they had a project due the next day. Library was closed and they (we) were out of luck. Yes, that was the late 80s early 90s (before the internet was the go to source). Sigh.
I like your Sunday posts and am on my way to connect on GR. Have a great week. Hope the temps come down a bit for you.

It's good to hear you're continuing with Sunday Salons, when I don't see you for a while it's nice to know what's going on in your neck of the woods. All I have on the agenda for today is Aquatica! Should be a fun day.

Well, as you know, I am well acquainted with the frustrations of no internet access! Each new neighbor who moves in that we meet, I tell them what we went through on their behalf! LOL

I'm glad to see you'll still be popping in from time to time. Don't you wonder how people have time to be bored?

Glad you plan on sticking with SS posts. We just started listening to The Never List in the car. Wow. Awesome audio.

I'm so happy that you're going to continue with your Sunday Salons! Those are my favorite posts of the week - both to write and to read - and the posts that help me feel the most connected to my book blogger friends.

I hear you on the internet thing - that would be so frustrating! I hope they get it figured out for you.

We're having a fairly down day after a weekend of house guests for Jon's b-day. Just church this morning, probably a nap, and then the 'Hawks game this evening. :)

Have a great week, Sandy. :)

Sandy,

though I haven't commented on your blog in years, I do still like to keep up with what you and your family has been doing. I almost always read it on Sunday, if not on other days. I've loved "watching" your family grow up, and seeing how you've taken up jogging again. I've loved learning about your vacations.

I still think that blogging is the king of social media. None of the other venues can compare.

The blogging craze has died down, but I hope it will never go away entirely. And I hope that you will continue to post, at least sometimes.

Your life is insanely busy, and you had an insanely ambitious reading and blogging schedule. Maybe a cut-back is all you need.

Hugs and best wishes.

I'm pleased you'll still be posting a SS update! I added you as a friend on Good Reads. I've been on for a few years, it's a good organizational tool for me. You are WAY busy, I always feel like a slug when I read your schedule. I don't have any activities I do for me, golf, working out etc that you do. I read...clean the house, cook, volunteer at the HS and typically have lunch/breakfast with a a friend once a week. 9-4 is my time while Nick is in school/conditioning for wrestling.
I read The Never List...very good. If you haven't read The Returned I think it's a book you'd enjoy.
The grocery store is on my agenda...and more reading.

I am always amazed at your level of energy - and exhausted after reading your blog :)

I'm glad you feel at peace about your blogging decision, but I will certainly remain in touch on Goodreads! I have used that site for years as a way to keep track and rate the books I have read... but I would like to start writing reviews as well.

It finally cooled down this week, which is wonderful. I read My Year with Eleanor last year and thought it was ok. Not revolutionary, but an easy read.

I always wanted to try golfing, but my dad's not into it. I LOVE mini-golf.

I do have a goodreads account, but I haven't used it for years. I guess I'll have to get back to it and see if it works for me - if only to keep in touch with you. I LOVED both 'Tell the WOlves' and 'Kiss Me First' so I really hope you manage to squeeze in reviews for both of those before November. Have a lovely week!

So glad you're going to continue with the Sunday Salon posts!

We basically spent Sunday in the car... driving the Jeep 3 1/2 hours to my daughter's college, then the minivan back home. It was a beautiful day and my oldest took the train up from NYC to meet us, too. Lunch in a park, a trip to the farm stand, and then a stop for ice cream - even the dog had a great day :-)

I swear I don't know how you run in the heat. It's finally cooling off here and I'm starting to enjoy running again.

I worried when we switched from DSL to Uverse recently as the DSL was pretty reliable but we had no issues with the switch and with the entire package deal we got, we save over $60 a month and got a $150 Visa card to boot. I highly recommend Uverse if you have it available in your area.

It's still freakin hot here. We have everything going on this week. Homecoming rally, parade, dance and game. Cross country meet... first of the season. Rehearsals start up tonight too. It's nuts and I do believe I have a parent teach conference at the end of the week too that I literally just remembered right now.

I have My Year With Eleanor on my shelf and I've been itching to get to it.
