Sunday Salon: Flurry

And that is exactly what this week represented...a flurry of activity.  I know, it is always crazy, but this week has come and gone in a blur.

I am so glad the election is over!  Hopefully I can ease back into Facebook without having to read all the mean-spirited posts.  It is over...let's move on.  This experience certainly has opened my eyes though, and not really for the better.  It is sad how polarized this country has become.

I did go on a three day field trip of Boston with a group of kids from my son's school, getting up at 3:45am on Wednesday and arriving back home at 1am on Friday night/Saturday morning.  I was delighted to find out we were going to be there during a Nor'easter.  We had snow (many kids have never seen), 50 mph wind gusts and rain.  This made all the outside tours pretty surreal, but it didn't seem to bother the kids.  The parents were the ones about ready to die!  The kids even had a two-hour snowball fight on Wednesday night out in the hotel parking lot, which was probably the highlight of the trip for them.  These trips are supposed to be educational, but after having gone on three of these, I think the real takeaway is the camaraderie amongst the kids and adults.  The destination doesn't so much matter.

Sports update:  My daughter's cross country team qualified for State competition on Saturday morning, both girls and boys.  We will be Tallahassee-bound next weekend.  Sadly, my son's football team lost their playoff game yesterday.  You know, they had a great run.  No team has progressed this far in their league, and they fought like warriors.  I am proud of them.  At this second, I am trying to get my head around a football-free schedule for next week, for the first time since August 1st.

So I didn't spend much time (or actually, any time past Tuesday night) on the blogs.  No Internet, no energy.  And I didn't get much read.  I am so pleased to tell you that I DID finish "Man in the Blue Moon" by Michael Morris over my trip, and started a quick graphic novel called "Drinking at the Movies" to make myself feel productive.

I am still progressing through Kate Morton's "The Forgotten Garden" on audio and I am completely in love.  What a complex, layered story that charms like no other Morton novel!!!  I am overwhelmed by what she brings to the literary table.  I hope I can wrap this up in the current week, but I also don't want it to end!

This morning I am going to attempt a long run solo or with husband, then spend the rest of the Sunday catching up on things.  I hope you have all had a great weekend.  Let me know if you are reading anything interesting!

Actually, you may just want to consider giving up Facebook altogether...

Drinking at the Movies? The title alone gets me smiling.

I agree with you about the polarization of our country. It's so sad and I think we've reached the point where compromise is considered a weakness...

Good job on the run this morning. Today is absolutely gorgeous here and I got in an 8 mile one.

I can't resist the title Drinking at the Movies! I agree about being glad the election is over, for various reasons. There are certain members of my family who can't even speak to each other around election time. :-) Congratulations on the running!

So exciting that the kids got to play in the snow! Sorry to hear about your son's team's loss - that's too bad. And congrats to your daughter!

I swear to god in our dystopian future we'll just have elections running ALL THE TIME. Now people are talking about the 2016 election. Gahhhhh nooooooooo.

Last week I listened to the audio of Dark Places by Gillian Flynn..I finished it and I have to tell you...it was disturbing, in a twisted mysterious way. I think you would like it.

I'm thankful the election is over. I do not tend to debate or discuss my political feelings, I feel strongly, but I don't defend well.

Enjoy your week!!

I love snow...
Helps if you have electric and heat though.

So sad to hear that the election polarised the country. I hope you can all get over that and move on now.

Hope you manage to have a bit more free time this week!

It does sound like you and the kids had a great trip. What I wouldn't give for a snowball or two right now. It's actually great weather fora run this morning, but I love the idea of snow. I haven't been reading much either. I have a ton of things in the works, but a bad narrator is slowing down my audio progression. I hope that you have the greatest of weeks over there!

I'm soooo glad the election is over too. FB has been a very unpleasant place lately....

We had flurries here today - of the snow variety. :)

We had a little snow overnight tonight, but not too bad. I need to get me a copy of that GN.

I don't like to be cold so that little field trip would have done me in.

Oh! I ran a little this weekend. I did your one minute suggestion where you run for a minute and then walk for 5. I didn't do it for too long but it was manageable and not the pin in my eye I thought it would be.

What a week you had! So exciting that the kids got to see snow. And I was totally wrapped up in The Forgotten Garden audiobook, too - what a story!

Glad they got to experience the "joys" of snow! I'm really looking forward to trying Kate Morton now!

I've been reading The Twelve FOREVER and it is finally getting pretty good. It doesn't help that I forgot just about everything in The Passage though.

Sounds like a fun trip Sandy. I love Boston but not sure I'd want to brave it in those weather conditions! ;)
