Sunday Salon: Transitions

Good morning my lovelies.  I know that the day of calm and peace is coming, but it hasn't found me yet.  While my daughter was out of school this week (which meant she was able to work out with me in the mornings, as well as nurturing her fetish for baking goodies to offset all the working out, thank you very much) my son still had school through Thursday.  So we were wrapping that up, getting my daughter ready for summer school and the start of summer cross country training next week, and whatever else.  Husband was out of town all week as well.  So I was on the run from morning until night, same old story, blah blah!

I think once we get the daughter's routine of summer school and 6:00am running down, we will find our rhythm.  Change particularly high school, is scary and exciting.  For not only her but me as well.  I tend to take on my kids' anxieties, being a worrier and an over-thinker.  I don't tell them that, but these challenges are always in the back of my mind.  I will relax once I see her figure everything out.

My parents were still in town this week, so we took the opportunity to see some movies, a favorite family activity.  We (finally) saw The Avengers, as well as Snow White and the Huntsman.  Hee hee.  What is the common denominator here?  Chris Hemsworth, that's what.  Any week is a little brighter if I get to see his little face on the big screen.  We also watched Alien at home, preparing for the sort-of-but-not-quite prequel Prometheus that is coming out next weekend.  We are pretty damned excited about seeing this one.

We also did some more geo-caching, went to Dave & Busters so they could get a cheapo toy for $50 worth of tokens, and took in some mall action for shopping.  I even squeezed in a lunch with the Heathers (Raging Bibliomania and Book Addiction).

So.  You know what is coming next.  I didn't get SQUAT done when it came to visiting blogs, reading, or writing reviews.  I did finish Karen White's "Sea Change" which was lovely as you might imagine.  And I started "Darkness All Around" by Doug Magee for a tour.

I also finally finished "The Lifeboat" and "The Informationist" on audio.  I really liked the latter, but not sure I fully appreciated the former as much as if I would have read it.  I still need to digest it and figure out how I feel.  I just started one of my series favorites featuring Lucas Davenport, "Stolen Prey" by John Sandford, which Penguin Audio was kind enough to send me.

I know many of you will be taking off for BEA in New York this week.  I wish you all safe travel and good times!  Take lots of pictures and share when you get home.

And you forgot to add that another blogger was sending you blow-by-blow panic emails about a book she was reading, like "do I have to keep reading this?" "should I keep reading this?" "this book is making me feel bad about myself!" etc.!

Hope you settle into a summer routine soon. May has been a tough blogging month for me, too...so many other things demanding my attention. Here's to a peaceful summer!

Happy summertime!! May it be not-that-crazy. Or just less crazy?

Ah, the joys of 6am practice...the routine will come. May is a super-busy month. A wonderful, less-crazed summer to you!

Okay, now I want to know what book Rhapsodyinbooks is talking about! lol

Yes, change is hard - and high school is a huge adjustment. I'm making some changes in how I'm handling Noah's 8th grade year so that he can maybe avoid some of the struggles Natalie had in adjusting to 9th grade online high school. We'll see if it makes any difference.

Glad you liked The Informationist! The sequel is made of just as much awesomeness. Hope you have a great week. :)

Never a dull moment in your world:). A friend of mine just finished The Lifeboat and raved about it. She's sending to me after another friend reads it..yay.
We are not quite into our summer routine yet, Nick starts freshman football weight training tomorrow...yikes those words really came out of my mouth?
I'm on a total roll with audio books, and really enjoying!!
Have a great week.

You having been keeping very busy! I do that thing where I take on my kids' stress too. I think one of the hardest parts of parenting is wanting the best for your kids, but knowing that they have to figure certain things out for themselves.

I was very lukewarm over The Lifeboat.

My son survived his first cross country training meeting. He ran 2.5 miles and was told that they are taking a trip to Mammoth. What?? At the end of July. Another $400 after DC? Hello???

He is now at his first basketball practice. He was more nervous about that one so we'll see what he has to say in about 45 min. I guess they try out for teams later so this is all just practice.

I think it is so great that you and your daughter work out together. And she'll do just fine in high school, I suspect. It will take time but she'll find her way and it will be good.

I remember the trepidation I had in the months leading up to my son starting high school. He just graduated high school a few weeks ago and I'm happy to say we both survived! I'm sure you daughter will make a good adjustment and all will go well. I'll keep you in my prayers.
