The Solidarity Monument stands as a tribute to the fallen shipyard workers who died in the strike of 1970. This strike, of course, is what led to the Solidarity movement that swept the country and brought communism to its knees. This attraction was very important for us to see personally, as my husband's father was a member of the original Solidarity movement, and was imprisoned for a time as a result. The steel structure was constructed in 1980, and resides very close to the shipyards in Gdansk.
