I'm not sure about the series but maybe it would be worth it to try to read the first one. It must have been strong enough to launch a series out of it.Kathleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01739982274914536036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4124681312732868654.post-9224597740220562832012-05-22T19:42:35.421-04:002012-05-22T19:42:35.421-04:00You should write a guide book to Old Florida lit!!...You should write a guide book to Old Florida lit!! ; )

Too bad this didn't quite work.Jennershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08044537551139633301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4124681312732868654.post-38357395216591143042012-05-18T08:36:28.605-04:002012-05-18T08:36:28.605-04:00Sandy, every year in September there is a Florida ...Sandy, every year in September there is a Florida Heritage Book Festival held in St. Augustine (right down the road from you!). Sounds like it might be something that would interest you. Randy Wayne White was the keynote speaker last year. My husband and I go every year because we live in St. Augustine and the author talks/sessions are completely free. We love it! I'm thinking for those who like the series the lack of back story and all that is probably refreshing.. sometimes when I'm reading a series book I'm like yeah yeah I know.. like how the babysitter's club always used chapter 2 to explain everything, LOL. I do like books that evoke a strong sense of place, though.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14128837662718618636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4124681312732868654.post-11935769778065757442012-05-16T21:25:41.115-04:002012-05-16T21:25:41.115-04:00Bummer. I can see where fans of the series might have loved this one, but it sounds like you need a lot of background info to really get these books. Very candid review. I agree with you that a well written series can be read out of order just fine.bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.com
