Not So Wordless Wednesday: Norway #10

Norway was an amazing place to visit, with all the natural beauty and fascinating history.  But the Fish Market was a huge highlight for us.  The market was settled right at the wharf, and everything fresh off the boat.  You could order your food from the vendors, have it prepared for you as you waited, and you could grab a beer and consume it all at a picnic table nearby.  We all could have eaten like this for every meal.  On top of a billion different kinds of fish, there were live crabs, shrimp, king crab legs as long as my arm, lobster, smoked and fresh salmon, even whale (which, thanks, I did not try but my husband and son did...the vendors are happy to slice you off a sample).

We had a lunch here once and for a brief period of time, magically, no one spoke.  We just reveled in our delicious seafood, cracking shells and having juice drip down our arms.  I didn't ask how much it cost.  I didn't want to know.

These pictures scare me a little. ;=) They remind me of the Stockton Street section of San Francisco's Chinatown. Tourists usually don't go down Stockton Street which is were all of the food markets, including fish, are found. It can be fun to visit.

I bet y'all were in hog heaven. What did your husband and son think of the whale they tried?

Love your not so wordless posts! (well, they're all not so wordless, but I mean the Wednesdays!) But whale - yuck! I too want to hear what they thought!

The only fish market I've been to like that is the one in Seattle. I grew up in a small fishing community though, so we had access to fresh seafood all the time. Maybe that's why I don't like most seafood (too many dishes I was forced to eat constantly as a kid - like fish patties - yuck). I don't think I'd be able to get past the thought of whale hunting to be able to taste the whale.

I have never been to a fish market, but whenever I see pictures of them or hear them described I become enthralled. I always imagine the exoticism of all the things they have there and wonder what I would try. But I have to admit, I probably wouldn't have tried the whale either. Great photos today.

Lost in the crab legs...and echoing: what did they think of the whale?

Oh wow, those crab legs are amazing...my husband would go to Norway just for those legs (hee, heee!) He loves crab legs!

That's a fantastic Fish Market but I wouldn't eat the whale...there's plenty of other delicous fishies there!

You were on vacation...I agree, don't ask the cost! The Fish Market sounds worth it, anyway!

Sounds like an amazing experience. And I'm with Caite -- those crab legs kind of grabbed my attention.

Oh those crab legs look so good! Food doesn't really appeal to me now, not because I'm sick, but because it's just blah. I could go for crab legs though. :)
